My trip is almost here but im puzzled about a few things

#1 Post by I Love Sea Fishing »

Hi all,
my trip is almost within reach will be sailing from holyhead to dublin next week and i ve recieved info on the dun laoghaire piers but am puzzled about the diffences between fishing seeward and inside the harbour apart from water state bearing in mind im beach casting with a 6oz lead and 2 hook flapper loaded with bait, any info regarding the matter will be much appretiated.

I am pleased to inform that i possibly have a trip to enniscrone and also salthill im a noobie to irish sea fishing but i hear its among the best in the world so lets hope your local info and the luck of the game prove me right, i hear enniscrone is very good fishing.

Howya,
I can't help much with those areas. I'd say have a look at the marks on the site, under Shore Marks section. That will get you more specific info. Also try Central Fisheries Board website, cfb.ie to identify marks. Fishing seaward versus not to me depends what you're looking for. For example seaward over rough rocky ground with kelp for decent pollack, fishing within harbour for mullet, both very different methods but both could be very entertaining (less likely to catch either of these right now I would guess). Then at this time of year the variety available generally probably not at its best, but I'm no expert as I don't do much fishing in the depths of winter.
Check magicseaweed.com to have an idea of what the swell will be like.

Hope you enjoy yourself

unless your coming west for a specific reason - i would head south rather than west to salthill and enniscrone

at these venues you are talking small whiting and colies - the odd flounder or dog

further south you have greater species numbers and hopefully larger fish to target - cork waterford kerry
