Island hopping 11/12/09

#1 Post by gara30 »

People:Gara30 and stevecrow74

Duration:6 hrs

Tide:over low

Weather:calm and cold

Bait:squid, sandeel and herring

Rigs:various

Results:Gara30 : 3 whiting, 1 pouting and a bull huss
Stevecrow74 : 3 thornback ray, 2 dogs

Report:Got to mark, flat calm waters. Caught a whiting on the first cast. unfortunately lost a big one on the second.
But caught a nice sized pouting soon afterward. Steve soon started reelin some pretty nice fish starting with a ray with a dog soon after. I got a good hit on the line and i realised that i had a good sized fighter on the take, had to wait to find out what i'd reeled in cos it got caught in weeds at the water line. So Steve was sent down reluctently to retrieve what we at first thought was a dog but to our surprise turned out to be a bull huss !! (pic below) Not to be outdone Steve then brought in a nice ray and a dog. The tide was in slack overlow and the bites disappeared for an hour and a half or so til on the final cast of the session i pulled in another whiting. Oh and Steve pulled in another ray. All in all a pretty good haul.

hehe.. you can guess who got the neoprene gloves in Aldi   mind you i also bought 2 pairs.. actually very nice too...

well done on the huss gara, biggest fish to date... just wait till you get a double figure one  would have loved to seen what fish you dropped was though.. was a good bend in the rod..
even though the second ray sure put up some scrap for the size of it.. fought the whole way in and even when releases was like a watery bat going down to hell as fast as possible...

nice to get out of the house and have a replacement chauffeur now that nige has gone.

i think not only some one got he fishing bug but it has now already become an obsession

just noticed.. this is the 25,000th topic

:) Nice going there lads, you're making me feel very lazy 8) BTW how did you present the herring? Always found it tricky to keep on the hook, even mummified.

Herring was very fresh, so stayed on the hook no problem, will be going back to That fish mongers again :)
