Bray Harbour again,6-12-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and Fishface

Duration:6-30pm-9-30pm

Tide:1 hour falling then rising

Weather:cold, breezy, but its December after all

Bait:lugeens, refrozen mack, squid

Rigs:flappers

Results:codling, whiting, 5 bearded rockling

Report:Had to give Fishface a chance to wipe my eye and he did it in style  . We were two lonely figures on that frozen windswept pier as we set up and it wasnt long before he had a double of rockling on the end of his line. I congratulated him through gritted teeth  and started saying hail marys,,,,,,i wasnt even getting a nibble  . He kept pulling in fish after fish,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"whats this Dave, is it another codling ",,,,,,,,,,,"how many have you caught yet :?: " :? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"Eh,,,none  ", was my reply. Even when i sat into the boot of his car for a bit of a rest from the breeze he kept it up about me blanking and i had to pretend to see a bite and get away from it  .I eventually caught a whiting   ,,,but was doubly disappointed when he pulled in a treble of 2 x codling and a whiting at the same time   .And then to cap it all my whiting was 29cms,,,,,,,,,,,not the 30 cm i told him it was   .I caught a codling about 25cms after that, and when Fishface had finished toying with me, he packed up and left,,,,,,,,saying he was meeting Brendan Gleeson on Wicklow pier to give him a few fishing tips. When he left he had 8 fish to my 2   , but i did catch another codling before my bait ran out   .Just to finish off with a health and safety message,,,,,,,,,,,Fishface has a new wooly hat, it has to be seen to be believed   ,,,,,,and you cant miss it  ,if you thought the Petzl Ultra was bright think again,,,,,,,,,,,luminous yellow wooly hat , goes well with the orange suit, coming to a beach near you soon

Fisherman's prayer:
God grant that I may live to fish, For another rainy day.
But when my final cast is made, I then most humbly pray.
When nestled in your landing net, As I lay peacefully asleep.
You'll smile at me and judge, That I'm "good enough to keep"!
