Bray Harbour 5-12-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me

Duration:6pm-10-30pm

Tideturn then rising

Weather:very wet and very windy but not too cold

Bait:lug,mack, squid

Rigs:2 hook flappers

Results:2 x 5 bearded rockling, 3 x whiting and 1 x coalie.

Report:Was to meet Fishface in Bray Harbour for a few hours fishing but on arrival it was very wet and windy with the tide nearly fully dropped. 2 lads already there had caught a good few doggies on the drop so i got suited up and set up just the one rod with a 2 hook flapper, lug tipped with squid. Positioned the car to give me a small bit of shelter and waited for the fish to arrive.Had to hold the rod in my hands most of the time and feel the bites, if any, through the line as it was very windy.Got talking to the 2 lads, one of which was Damianmark off the site and was telling them that they could expect to get rockling at the low tide when i felt a few gentle tugs on the line  . Reeled it in and a double of 5 bearded rockling were on the other end 8) 8) .Feeling quite the expert after that i cast out again to see what i'd get next but all i got was big weedfish   .The sea was coming over the wall on the far side of the harbour facing south and this was at the lowest part of the tide   . I rang Fishface and told him the situation and that he might be better off staying where he was  and he agreed   .No sooner had i put the phone down than i had another bite, this time a small coalie   .The weed started to disappear as the tide rose but not before i hooked into a large ray 8) ,,,,,,,,,at least thats what i thought it might be until i saw that i'd snagged a small undersea forest   At least i got a 3 oz weight  from a rig that was caught up in it. Some other lads arrived and decided to fish and we all settled down for the next couple of hours catching nothing but crabs. Damianmark packed his rod away and was ready to leave but then his mate, sorry didnt get the name, got a whiting to save the blank, followed by another   .The lads on my other side got a nice codling and a 5 beard rockling, then it was my turn with a few whiting around 26-7cms, welcome after a barren few wet and windy hours. I almost felt bad catching a few fish after advising Neil not to bother fishing   ,,,,,,,,,,,well ALMOST    . I packed up after that before i caught something really decent,,,,,,,,,,, then i really would have felt bad   The lads were staying on late, hope they did well  .

Good result with whitning reilly
Fisherman's prayer:
God grant that I may live to fish, For another rainy day.
But when my final cast is made, I then most humbly pray.
When nestled in your landing net, As I lay peacefully asleep.
You'll smile at me and judge, That I'm "good enough to keep"!
