here's a tip for anyone that is a wino or knows a wino...!

there has been a bit of talk on the site about floatfishing for wrasse. to make good reliable floats from corks use a narrow drill piece. drill through cork from top to bottom. cut a lenght from a drinking straw of similar diameter to the drill piece. this should be the lenght of the whole drilled through the cork, plus 1/2 to 1 cm extra. insert the straw lenght leaving a little coming out either end of the cork. now melt each end of the straw and press against a flat surface. this seals the ends of the straw to the cork. now u have a slider float that cost u nothing and won't chip. use permanent markers, etc. to colour if u like. u can use large coloured beads above the cork to see the float. vary colours to spot the float in different conditions.

*the beauty of these little corkers is that if u make up good few u can slide on as many as conditions demand. this means u can use 3 or four to make a big 'stick float' for casting far out with more weight and giving good stability/ control, or u can just use one on a calm day fishing tight to your feet. also, u can try sliding on big 8mm glow in the dark beads above the float and charging them with a torch and u will see the float at night. it has served me well. cheers, Mark. a bad days fishing is cheaper than a bad night out.

Theyre handy alright, i used to make them up years ago for mullet fishing. My favourite DIY float these days is the Jif lemon, plastic straw (or the plastic tube from inside a bottle of kitchen cleaner spray) down the middle, then pumped full of builders mastic. Very visible, built-in weight for casting - and no danger of gargling the contents first.... :D
