I'm planning a couple of flattie bashing trips over the next couple of weeks and two of the spots I've never fished before. One is in North Dublin near a popular dogging spot with low flying planes coming in so any info appreciated
Anyways I was tying a few rigs over the weekend and I was blinging up the bottom hook on the flapper with all sorts of weird and wonderful things. My three year old has some nice beads sets that were put to good use And I was adding a few attractors and the likes too. I know some lads just don't add anything to the trace and some swear by it. I was just wondering what you do for flattie rigs? I've had many flats with and without so not sure if they do make a whole lot of difference.
North side flounder aren't that partial to bling Depends on the spot really any 3 hook flapper with long snoods and size 2 or 4's should be fine..if it's a shallow flat beach i make 10 foot rigs with 30lb rig body and 3 foot of 10lb snood line 3 hooks up seems to do the job on these beaches..Laytown..donabate etc. If the weather is rough then it's the usul 50/60lb rig body with 15/20lb snoods.. I usually dont go above 15lb unless i have to.
Different strokes for different folks though, i'm sure some people will think thats crap and tell ya to fill you whole rig with bling

If doggin means the same in Dublin as it does up here I would watch myself when putting my gear on in the car park incase someone thought you were undressing with an open invitation to partake in their version of sporting activities????? Second piece of advise- if your three yr old asks about her bracelet- deny everything!!!
On the Co. Antrim coast we have had good success on flattie rigs with 2/0 and 3/0 hook rigs with a spinning blade (a mep spinner blade if home made) and a few sequence about 3 inches from the baited hook. We have only ever fished this one rig at a time to avoid compications and unholy tangles.
I agree with Al on the long flowing snoods but when bites are slow or in a rough sea ill use a 3 hook boom with short snoods 6 to 10 inches long. All i add to my snoods is a bait stop and a single beed or sequin but these are more to keep the bait in place than anything else. I usualy use size 4 kamasan match or size 2 owner cutting point depending on where im fishing and what else i expect to be around.
I generally use a main rig body of about 5 aand a half foot with about two foot snoods. I use 50 lb rig body with 15 lbs snoods. Kamasan match hooks either size 2 of 4. I dont bother using bling, doesnt seem to make a differance around here, if anything i catch more without it!

It's ok as it's a day time venue I hope! As for the feed back the long trace seems to be the most common agreement. I've had millions of flats from beaches when fishing for other species on a normal two hook flapper so I was just wondering was I wasting my time with the bling? I don't know why but as soon as I go targeting the flats I get all artistic with glowing beads and silver flash!?
there are one or two spots i have fished whereby a floating bead or a few coloured beads and sequins/flasher blades made a difference. it's hard to say if it's the colour,rattle or the way they affect the bait or all of them. for the most part i dont use them much bar the floaties. flounder spoons work too. threading up string of beads onto snoods takes ages . in saying that try fishing one against the other and see for yourself. for the most part a three hook flapper for flatfish is as good as it gets. light snoods when calm and maybe heavier if the seas up with a lot of weed. a bait in the right place is hard to beat

dfella, what i have told you about asking 'kew'uestions (letter kew is broken on my laptop since i spilled tea on the keyboard)
beads are the anti christ off the flounder world, bar little floaties of course. i use to think lumi beads where handy at night but then realised most of the time i used them the sea was chocolate in colour anyway, so i dont believe they make any sort of concerted difference. ive tried the beaded rig vs plain rig and each session the beaded rig was left dead in its tracks. as mark said put the bait in the right spot and its hard to beat
