traps for peelers

#1 Post by dtmcc »

Hi all.

Living here on the E coast of Ireland and I know someone has traps out at Dublin for peelers.

I have been trying traps, well to tell the truth! "eh" I have only seen the one crab "this year" which had no intent of peeling so I put her back.

The place where I have set my traps, I know for a fact that there are millons of green shore crabs in June - September which have all peeled.

Some where on this site "tyres" with holes cut in them etc as traps seem to be the norm, but would they not float away? an X distance on every tide. I would like to find out more about cutting, tying old tyrs togather etc.

Also had the idea of using prawn creels baited, but that would not give up peelers I think!?.

If anyone wants to part with some of there know how, would you at least e-mail me!!!

Piping

I use a 3ft length of piping cut down the middle so its a semi circle and then stick it in the ground at a slight angle and cover it with sand and weed.
