Galway City 10.11.09

#1 Post by saltydog »

People: vinnycorrigan, nige, stevecrow74, bradan, doggie3131, goldwing, jason, ian & myself

Duration: different start and finish times for everyone 17:00-01:00

Tide: HT @ 23:20

Weather: Dry and Cold no wind

Bait: Lug, Mackerel, Squid, Sandeel, Razor, Mussel, White Rag

Rigs: Various but mainly flappers

Results: Flounder, Cod, Coalfish, Whiting and Poor Cod

Report: Hadn't gotten out since Wexford so was itching for a session calls were made and 6 GBSAC members were joined by the Mayo selective for a midweek session. After digging several trenches (and breaking 1 fork  ) we had gathered enough worms for the group. Vinny was first in with a brace of flounder and coalie i think :? followed soon after by the crow with a flounder first cast with his new rod. I was next off the mark with a brace of flounder and coalie. Nige followed suit with the biggest flat of the session 34cm flounder and very plump. The rest of the lads starting arriving and real estate was at a premium :P as soon as the tide turned the fishing picked up i had a treble of flounder and coalies. All the lads were getting into fish although it took some a bit longer than others to get going :P  I had another double shot of flounder and a small cod (biggest round of the session :P ). There were a good few coalies showing up along the beach with a few decent ones in the mid 20cms. Bradan had a couple of wee cod too. The little bit of surf there was died as the tide hit the steeper part of the beach and the fishing went quite with a couple of whiting and coalies showing late on. Was great to see a good few of the lads getting out and fair play to the Mayo posse for making the trip. The lads can add what they finished up with.... i ended up with 14 coalies 4 flounder 1 cod and 3 whiting.

Vinny and doggie have some pics.

good to meet the galway lads again, and to fish the last time with nige before he travels to foreign lands :( and to meet lads we had not met before :D we did not get there till late and the galway lads had robbed the good spots  the fishing was quiet, with nothing up to the last hour for the mayo gang,my first blank since april looked possible, and then i got a coalie :D :D i finished up with 1 coalie and 3 whiting, goldwing had 4 whiting and 2 coalies, and jason had 2 whiting a new species for him :roll:even tho he does not count minis as "real fish! :D he thinks our next session should be in mayo where and i quote "at least the fish are a good bloody size"! he has a point :D only the one pic of goldwing with a fish,if you can see it!

nice to get out again.. and in such cold temp's too.. thankgfully i was toasty warm the whole time... only time i realised how cold it was is when i went to drink out of the bottle of coke and it was colder than when it came out of the fridge...

also great to catch a fish on the first cast on my new rod.. superb piece of kit..

my final count is 2 flounder, 6 whiting, 5 coalfish and a poor cod..

well done lads. wee informal comps can be great craic :D :D :D and how jammy was conor. just spotted that the flounder in his treble shot in vinny's pic is a lefty    you'll not see too many left handed flounder about. less than a quarter of the hatch develop into leftys  so well done
