People: Me
Duration: 4 hours (1:30 am - 5:30 am)
Tide: Started just after Low.
Weather: Just a little wind at first. then rain and increasing wind after an hour.
Bait: Mack, Squid, Sandeel, Herring
Rigs: 3 Hook Flapper (with booms)
Results: Coalies, Pollock, Whiting, Flounder
Report: With a lack of sleep due to being back on the dole and a total crap weather week I headed down to Salthill for what seemed to be a break in the weather. Just brought the one rod set up with a 3 hook flapper. I was right in first cast with a small coalie (20cm or so) followed quickly by a Flounder (20cm or so). The first hour was lovely, nice and dry with good amount of stars showing up and fish every 10 minutes or so. Then the wind and rain kicked in... but so did the fish. Plenty of small coalies (some of them pollock i'm sure but with the headlamp and the rain i just couldn't make my mind up...), plenty of whiting (1 or two nearly 20cm).... packed it up when the waves were pushing me up the rocks and stairs)...
Ended up with 30+ coalies&pollock , 10+ whiting, 1 Flounder
Nothing over the 20cm mark.

Re: Salthill - Early AM Friday 6th November
nice fishing vinny. what you lacked in quality, you more than made up for in quantity
. seems to be loads of whiting, pollack and coalies hanging around the harbours at the moment. just a pity none of them are any bigger than 20cms
. but it sure beats blanking any day
