Angling Show in Belfast/Dublin

The belfast show is in the Kings hall on Fri to Sun 15th to 17th & in Dublin the following week.
Are these events any good? Are they demonstration only or is there gear for sale? & if there is it as cheap as buying on-line?

the shows are very good paddy, lots of stall's ( dont take your credit card with you ) plenty of gear for sale at them, dont know about demonstrations ( casting and such ) at the belfast show, but far as i know there is at the dublin show. not sure about the prices, but if you hunt around the stall's you will pick up a bargain...

Normally it's the National Show Center near Dublin Airport, but I've seen an advertisment for a Dublin Angling show in Citywest around the same time this year. Looks like it's moving

I have went to the belfast angling show once. its good for fresh water and fly fishermen. It was £8 in and £7 parking the last time i was there. £15 before you even buy anything. Best thing to do is take yourself to belfast angling centre and spend your money there, decent bunch of lads and will help ya with anything you need.

There is going to be two angling shows in Dublin in 2010:

The usual event around Valentine’s weekend (Feb 13-14) in the National Exhibition Centre:

we went to last year's show in belfast and it was pretty decent. there was a lot more stuff for the coarse and game guys, but there was still some good bargins to be had for the sea angler the west coast tourist lads had a good stall with loads of info with brocures for accomodation, charters and angling marks. we got 20 eddystone sand eels for £10 at one stall and there was some cracking rod deals to be had too. never be afraid to haggle with the stallholders at these events you can get even more off the marked prices that way

Mac - A credit card bill is the last thing you will need to worry about if you attend a fishing expo over valentines weekend..... ha ha.

lads spoke to afriend with a tackle bussiness he went last year reels that he sells on line for 20 euros were being sold for 45 euro the reason being the cost of a stand per square foot is 85 euro the overheads are huge so i cant see any bargains can you?

I heard the overheads were huge alright.

You do get some bargins, but you will have to look hard for them. TBH, not much there for the Sea angler any time I've ever attended. I use it as an excuse for a pint..... Mostly Game and Coarse orientated, and I've enough Game tackle to set up a stand myself. The majority of stuff is similarly priced or as you mentioned, some of it can be more expensive. If you know your prices, you wont get caught, but a lot of visitors are casual anglers and these guys might not know the difference between shop and show prices or if the kit is worth it in the first place.

Two shows is the best result for us anglers, although I wish they were a little further apart. Both shows will be looking for stands , so hopefully the prices will some down a lot for the exibitors and as a result we get some decent bargins.

As for Valentines day...... The worst of all the hallmark days. Go out the week before or after and you'll get better table service, better cooked food and you won't rushed off the table or ripped off for a bottle of Vino. Save the money you've just saved for even more tackle

Hard to imagine tackle dealers doing two shows so close together, whatever the cost.
Is the one in by the airport the established show? You would have to wonder how the second one will do. Maybe they should have come to Cork

city west would be seen as a prestigious venue for those who get a nose bleed crossing nortthside of the liffey.with the prices quoted for stands its hard to see where the profit will come from for traders

We have taken over the "Ireland Angling show" in Swords and aim to revamp the whole show and add more exhibitors and events during the two days. We print "The Irish Skipper" and run the Skipper Expo in Galway each year, so we have very close links to the Sea Angling sector.

I am keen to take on as many comments as possible. The aim is to have a good mix for all anglers and we have brought down the costs also, to help exhibitors and you can save admission costs by booking online.

This is the ninth year and will hopefully be the best I hope and as we are a small Donegal based company, we are very keen to increase the Sea Angling side of the event.

Cost is approx €75 per sq.metre.

Depends on size, the bigger the cost comes down.

it works out at about 600 euros for 2 days you would have to be mr garcia or mr shakespere to make any profit here
my point being there will be no bargains at this overheads will be too big for the dealers you would have to shift half of container of tackle to recover the 600 enterance fee id say its just for dealers really a chance to meet reps from different supply companys and thrash out better deals but for us plebs somewhere to walk around and annoy ourselfs looking at all
the latest gear we cant afford lol

I have always found these shows to be good and I always get to one of them each year whether it's the Belfast Show or the one in Dublin.
I am going to the Belfast show this year, I'll be there on the second day - the Sunday. That's when you get bargains from the tackle dealers who want to get rid of as much stuff as they can before the show ends.
K2 and I have got loads of new rods and reels at really good prices from the shows in the past.
If anyone is going to the Belfast show then maybe I'll see you there.
