Wicklow beach, 1-11-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and fishface

Duration:6pm-10pm

Tide:rising

Weather:showers, otherwise nice bright night

Bait:lug, mack, squid

Rigs:3 and 2 hook flappers,

Results:me;9 schoolie bass ,6 doggies,,,,fishface;5 schoolies. 6 doggies, 1 flounder

Report:With parking restricted at my favourite beach mark I drove on and found another spot to park. There was a nice surf running and a strong tide. Rang Fishface and he was down in half an hour. He wasnt impressed with the bait i had with me, which was lug." Lug doesnt work here", he said but he still took half of my bait(lug, mack and squid   ), and started to bait up. He hadnt noticed that I was unhooking a plump schoolie bass, about 25cms   That small bass had pulled the rod from the stand  .I cast out again and when i brought it in there were 3 schoolies on the 3 hook flapper, happy days."Imagine what i'd have caught if if i'd have been using rag    ", i shouted over to him.He remained unimpressed and told me that i'd use up my bait too quickly using 2 rods  . I thought about it and decided to pack one rod away. I had another 2 before he landed one, then i noticed he was craftily using 2 rods himself    .I thought i was into a bigger bass when my line went slack, then took off down the beach, but this turned out to be a doggie. I turned around to find Fishface holding one up as well, caught at exactly the same time   . Funny theres no flatties here i wondered , with fishface adding that they never turn up here. Then he landed a nice flounder ,29cms   .It started to rain , but not too heavy, then I thought Mitch had arrived with another Petzl Ultra, but it was only the moon coming out of the clouds(I could have sworn i saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary   but perhaps i'm listening to Joe Duffy too much). Then I got another slackliner, lifted into something decent and had a job hauling it in. It was a doggie double   .Fishface was hinting all night that he was on his last 2 lug, but i just ignored him, rightly so cos at the last cast he still had 2 lug while i only had one   . That last cast resulted in another doggie, i had been hoping for the 10th schoolie, but i was well pleased with the evening, getting 9 schoolies and 6 dogs. Fishface got 5 schoolies and 6 doggies but also got a flounder giving him 3 species which i'm sure he'll point out but dont forget they were all caught on my lug,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,which of course doesnt work here
