Dublin, bray, greystones, dun laoghaire
Im a good old old english lad coming over to ireland for the christmas period looking to do some sea fishing and as you may have seen by my other post some course aswell.
Seeing as were staying in tullamore i was told by my dads girlfreind who is irish that the east coast is quicker to get to than the west therefore liminting us to the east coast un less told otherwise, i need info on the best fishing areas around dublin, i hear howths head or something is good, the particular species im after in these winter months are:
* Pollack
*Coalfish
*Cod
*whiting
All from the shore or pier, my dad is an expeirenced rock fisherman who lived in New zealand but icy rocks, dont wanna get killed now

Re: Dublin, bray, greystones, dun laoghaire
You're fairly smack bang in the middle of it all, hour to dublin, hour to galway, just over an hour to limerick..
there's not much point in drivin all that way to go to howth, can be very hit and miss..perhaps further south, greystones, bray etc... the motorways make it all fairly accessible, from tullamore, pop up to athlone, you can go left towards galway, right to dublin, then from dublin, you can take m50, will spit you out down towards bray and wicklow...

Re: Dublin, bray, greystones, dun laoghaire
Tullamore is very central for instance 1 and half hours would take you to Dun Laoghaire but 1 hour 50 mins would take you to Galway.
Think about it because fishing on West coast is a lot better than East coast.
Check out www.aaroadwatch.ie and use the route planner to find directions and times to different locations around the country.
I dont do any shore fishing any more so not much help on that front but I'm sure people who know will be along shortly.
Good luck and enjoy and don't forget a report on how you got on.

Re: Dublin, bray, greystones, dun laoghaire
Up here in the Sligo/mayo area 2 hours from tullamore, you can dig lug and white rag in estuary's at low. Sandeel & Squid (frozen) also work well, If you head to Westport go into "A shore thing" and speak to Doug he did have rag in but importantly he can point you to the local good marks in that area
Rock fishing for Pollack and coalies plus numerous others, Codling are in but no real size to em ( Ones that I have caught and heard of ) but here's hoping theyll come in, beaches are productive for coalies, flounder and others
happy hunting and tight lines

Re: Dublin, bray, greystones, dun laoghaire
ya,the west coast, the fish are bigger, and more plentiful, pollock and coalies are no problems, flounder, turbot, seatrout, are all caught regulary, dougs shop "the shore thing" in westport,is the place for all the up to date info, and hes a sound man,you would need to book live bait in advance, his number is,098 28447,and a stay in westport is recommended, its a great town.if you decide to fish down our way then pm me at a date closer to christmas and ill let you know whats fishing.

Culchie / mulchie
Unrefined individual from a rural background, equivalent to `redneck' or `shitkicker' in America. The precise derivation of the word is unknown: some hold it to be a corrupted form of the word `agriculture', an activity commonly practiced by our country brethren when not paid not to do so by the EU. Others claim it to be a corruption of Kiltemagh, a small village in County Mayo believed to produce culchies of the highest calibre.
hope that answers it for you pat

Certainly rich culchies out that way, I sold a minibus to a fella from Kiltimagh a month ago, he had also just paid €100k CASH for a new midi coach

good deffination of the word culchie, the difference between a culchie and a jackeen is, that a culchie can always outgrow his affliction,by becoming urbanised and cultured whereas a jackeen is a jackeen and can never get rid of his shame
