Donegal/swilly/beach mark 31-10-09

#1 Post by fishermannum1 »

People myself and a friend

Duration 8 am to 3.45pm

Tide down to low and some of the rise

Weather fine to start then some rain

Bait mac/squid/razor/herring

Rigs pulleys

Results bass/doggies/plaice/turbot/gurnard

Report started off at lough swilly and from the first cast it was doggies, then more doggies  after an hour of none stop dog fish we upped sticks and moved to another mark closer to the mouth of the lough, it was the same story again doggies on every cast. i could see the bait was quickly starting to disappear, so we decided to head off to a beach on another coast line. an hour later we were on the beach and there was a nice surf rolling in on it 8) got the rods baited up and in the water, one out far with the other close in, was very quiet for an hour or so then we started to get small but definite pull's on our rods, i was first in with a good sized turbot of 1lb 9oz, then the mates rod got a cracker of a pull, and he landed a thumper of a plaice witch hit the scales right on 2 1/2lb. after that we landed a few more turbot and another couple of plaice. had not noticed any touches on the rod out far, so began reeling it in to chance the bait, felt a light tug on the line and ended up landing a nice red gurnard :P :P we then got to the stage of "HUNGER"   so i started to pack up the gear, the mate got all his sorted out and then said he was going to try a plug for ten minutes until we were ready to go. i got the car all packed up and walked back on to the beach, there he was with his rod bent in two and a bass dancing along the top of the water 8) 8) 8) the scales were packed away so it was a rough guess of its weight, recon it was app; 4 1/2 t0 5lb 8) 8) he unhooked it and it swam off still good and strong. then it was off home for the spud's, really enjoyed the day and cant wait for the next trip out.....this Monday... 8)
