East Cork Beach 26/10/09

#1 Post by MikeQ »

People:Me

Duration:7pm - 1am

Tide:Flood till 11.30

Weather:Heavy mist, nice on shore breeze

Bait:Rag, Crab

Rigs: Loop Rig, 2 Hook Flapper

Results: 2 Bass, 4 Whitting, 2 Flounder, 1 Codling.

Report:
Went to dig lug yesterday and got to the bed to find it completely covered in weed and the tide not out far enough. Thankfully Rory rescued the situation with some left over Rag he had so many thanks for that Rory!! It was pitch black last night and with the surf and light breeze I was expecting fish. I set up my first rod with a 2 hook flapper baited with rag and put it out about 20yrds. I had just started to thread the line through the second rod when the first rod started nodding. Started the night with a nice Whitting, blank saved :D Re-baited the rod and cast it out and again - didnt get a chance to finish setting up my second rod when i got hit and in came my first bass of the night - tiny, but he gave me some belt and put up a very spirited fight!! He even managed to draw blood while I was unhooking him with a spike straight into my finger, getting his own back for being yanked out of the water lol!! I eventually got the second rod set up with small mack baits on size 1/0's and I put it out about 130 yrds. I got a little twitch on it and brought it in with a nice flounder on the end. While I was unhooking the flounder and getting him back in I saw the rod in close go again. Brought it in with a codling around the pound mark attached!! The species were stacking up so I was well happy!! I was confident at this stage that it was gonna be that way for the night with plenty of bites and fish coming in quick. It was a very enjoyable session really, I was hitting fish at distance and in close. All the fish were small enough except for the second bass. He also took one of the tiny mack baits on the loop rig and well out at that! He weighed in about the 3 pound mark. I was gonna stay and fish the outgoing and im sure id have doubled my catch at least but with the weather getting wetter by the minute I headed home. So a good night in which I caught bass and flounder on my whitting baits and on my bass baits I caught whitting and codling lol. I love the unpredictability of fishing, its what keeps me coming back for more!! :D :D
