Wicklow marks 24/10/09
People:Steyrman, Tonyfella and me
Duration:9:30 till 6
Tide:flood and some of the fall
Weather:overcast at first but sunny later with a westernly wind
Bait:rag, lug, mack , sandeel and crab
Rigs:2 and 3 hook flappers, loop rigs and 1 hook clipped
Results:Wrasse, coalies, tompot blennys, dogfish, bass, plaice, flounder and an octopus
Report:Most of you will know steyrman (Willie) from his boat exploits but he was keen to do some shore fishing so we hatched a plan to fish two wicklow marks, and after a tiring bait digging session we headed to wiclow pier and set up. In general fishing was slow but tony led the way and we managed wrasse, coalies and a tompot blenny here with an octopus putting in a guest appearance. With the weather looking brighter and the sea not looking too lumpy or weedy we headed for another mark along the coast.Willie was first into a schoolie bass and we enjoyed a few hectic hours of action with coalies and flatties also showing in reasonable numbers.Tony rounded things off with a doggie on his last cast and that put end to an enjoyable day with some good sport and loads of banter.None of the fish were huge but we must have had at least 10 schoolies each giving good sport on light gear.It was great to meet Willie and he showed us hes equaly at home on the shore as he is on a boat.

didnt really notice a bite but was heavy enough to drag in, it let a shot of ink go when i threw him back in the water.seanie35 wrote:fair mix of species, id say an octopuss bite is weird did ye get inked when it was landed![]()
