Knots
Hi people i know this question gets answered all the time. But i'm trying to find a strong knot for tying the swivel from mainline to the rig and a strong knot for tying the weight end rig clip to the bottom of the rig, also hook snood knots.
What does everyone use??

I Use a uni/grinner with the number of turns dependant on main line/swivel size and also I spose would be dependant on what ye want to catch
but that is the only knot I use any how (
Must learn some more Knots

Re: Knots
Thanks lads. great advice. One more thing, when i tie my knots i can never get them right cause of the line, its so stiff and wont stay in the shape i want it too, if you get me. What type of line should i use for snoods and main rig line for making my rigs.

Re: Knots
This is a good site for knots with illustrations http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php
Try using some thin rope for practising doing the knots. When you get the hang of it then you can try it with your line. I find this an easy way to learn new knots. As for snood line you can use some mono that is from your main line or I like using Maxima.

As Zenken said the Sakuma rig body or shock leader is good stuff for your trace.

Is a 15lb - 25lb snood length ok with 80lb rig body.
At the minute i use ultima sea strike 60lb for rig body and 30lb for snoods, the 60lb is so crap for tying knots. Really hard for tying anything.
The sakuma rig body looks good mate i think i will go with that for rig body.
dfella25 is the maxima snood length good then?? Does anyone else use this or amnesia??

Re: Knots
palomar knot was tested by sea angler as the strongest knot..its very simple but only for a short item like a hook or swivel.
It places two runs of line through the item to be attached....

The Amnesia is great for avoiding tangles all right as it's stiff but it tends to stretch if snagged, caught in a huge lump of weed or you get a big fish like a dog on it. I used to use it all the time but found the knots were not great. The Maxima is tough stuff but much lighter and wont stretch. I must say since I started using it I have not looked back.
You could just use some mono off your mail line spool though. If it's 15 to 20lb it will be fine.

Re: Knots
80lb rig body is far too heavy unless you can cast like big danny
60lb will do just fine, the sakuma stuff is very good. i think amnesia is horrible stuff, its not that stiff when compared to flouro, it stretches too its useless on clip down rigs and doesnt knot very well in the lower bracking strains.only thing i use it for is for rig bodies on scratching rigs. maxima is lovely stuff, stands out nicely, knots well, doesnt stretch too much, however i find its abrasive resistence isnt that great so after catching a few dogs on the snood il often throw the rig away and take out a fresh one, its a brilliant line for scratching. stren clear in 20lb isnt a bad all rounder.

Re: Knots
Mixed opinions then, The amnesia looks like a decent snood line, never seen the maxima beore.
60lb sakuma rig body then i shall go for, cheers eric.
Eric now that you say amnesia snoods stretches too much, that would be a pain in the ass for clipped down rigs, which is mostly what i use. That would do my head. The Maxima sounds ten times better from what your saying there. The abrasiveness wouldnt really bother me, at the end of the day your line will always get damaged from constantly using the rig until it gives way on a big fish youd be fukin ragin. But sure Maxima is sounding like my favourite here.
I was originally thinking from other opinions that amnesia is better. Mabye erics amnesia was a bad batch and thats why it stretched too much.
Anyone else use Maxima or Amnesia???

the complexion of my skin does not depict the time of day i fishflouro is nice not cause its invisble, thats a load of bollox to be honest, but because its stands of the rig nice, has no stretch and no mememory. amnesia comes of the spool like a curly whirly bar, no amount stretching remove the kinkyness (not sure if thats a real word and read it the correct context pervs
)

i havent had any trouble with amnesia on clipdowns. you dont need to stretch it just hang your rigs up. not the nicest line in the world but it does the job. maxima is a nice line but it dosent take as much punishment. sakuma or powerflex are decent rig bodies. the powerflex is stiffer but dosen't stretch as much. depends what you want. use a uni knot. Eric just likes his fluorocarbon and fine cheeses...
