Report
to be honest its was not really a fishing session, i had to go down to Donegal to see some friends so i threw a couple of rods into the car and headed off, had planed to put one rod out and practice my casting with the other rod with the reel down. so baited up the rod with mac tipped off with squid, and put it into the furthest breaker. then walked a bit on up the beach and began casting with the new rod with the reel down on it, kept looking over at the rod on the tripod every so open to check for hits or slack line. so kept on at the casting trying different sizes of weights, as time went by i was concentrating more on the casting and had not checked the other rod. when i did look down, the tripod was laying in the sand and the rod was gone     so as quick as i could move ( which is not that quick )  i got to were the rod was pulled in and could not see it anywhere   so after about ten minutes searching and up to my waist in water i found the rod, and had to dunk myself under the water to get hold of it   i walked to the shore reeling in as it was just slack line, then i felt the weight 8) next thing i had a 4lb Bass at my feet :P :P :P :P was over the moon with the Bass but was more than happy to get the rod n' reel back. :D :D :D

There's fishing, and there's practising. Doesn't do to try both at one!

Nice one on the Bass.

cheer's guys.
Tanglerat, I've learnt my lesson :D no baited rods in the water if I'm going to practice my casting
a lot of people over the years have said to me.........theres no Bass in Donegal........., and they are so wrong, i have quite a few Bass marks that produce the goods for me, all in Donegal. it has taken me a very very long time to get these marks, trying every stage of the tide on all of them till i hit it right, a lot of beaches up here hold Bass, not as many as down south, but they are here. but it took a lot of trail and error to find the right spot on these beaches to target them. so i think i will be keeping these marks under my belt

Well done on the bass :). I was about to say the
same on the bass, they are up here as well on the north
coast but not as plentyfull as wexford etc. :(
The quality is as good as any where else as the specimen
records show, three out of the six biggest bass caught in Ireland
have come from the northern beaches. Some more breaking
news a specimen gilthead bream was caught on one of the
local beaches last night, must get of to the beach.
Specimens come and go but the passion is for ever.

Haha brilliant story! well done on the bass. happened to me before on a pier in mayo! rod and reel launched off my tripod and cruised out to sea! about an hour later a small crab boat was going along and all i could see is him pick up the rod out of the water with a massive bend on it but the idiot lost it! haha
