Re: dunree , inshowen 17/10/09
It all depends which side of the beach you are fishing. to the left and fishing away from the bay, a float is king, with almost any decent bait, but don't cast too far. To the left and inside the bay, ledgered sandeel is the boss, although if you are luck enough to have small rag, a bunch of them is unbeatable. To the right of the bay, salmon have been taken on frozen sandeel (not by me, but I have been there when it happened, end of July and August gets decent salmon runs) normally I stick to tipped lug or rag here. Go to the tip of the rocks on the right side of the bay and freelined frozen sandeel is yer only man. Don't __ around with it, just a stout spinning rod, 15-20Lb braid and an uptide extra hook, cast it in, let the tide drag it around and wait for the inevitable, mostly pollack and Ballan wrasse, although I have caught the odd rare bass there, although they are few and far between. One or two a year is typical, and this is my front garden, so don't give out if you don't catch a bass.
