first time boat purches

hi i am going to buy a small boat and was lookin at an orkney any advice would be great

Orkneys are a good little boat!

Your question is very vague so it's hard to give any answer really. The best advice I can give you is take someone that knows about boats to look at it before you buy and remember every boat no matter what size has got it's limits and unlike a car you can't walk home if something goes wrong with it!

Welcome aboard Trout hunter (I take it its SEA trout )
The 19' fastliner is a grand boat. No the fastest nor the most comfortable at speed in a chop. Still a good sea keeper.

make sure you get someone to check the engine . I bought a boat with a dodgy engine and ended up having to buy a new one

check out boats in the uk too. better choice more bargins.

be very careful buying in the uk you can find yourself traveling 600 miles for a piece of c--p as i did last december dont mind these internet photos you can make anything look good in photos with a computer we traveled bt boat to see a boat in canvey island 6 hr drive from holyhead when we got to the boat yard it was a write off in bits looked nothing like what we seen in the pictures we found another boat in a marine company in essex but this was after spending 2 days solid looking at boats from kent all the way up to brightlingsea we veiwed about 30 boats 20 of them would have cost thousands to make seaworthy others that we liked had no trailers so be careful you dont get done

i dont think uk is all its made out to be you will pick up a good boat here for the same money take in to account the fare for your boat over petrol for the car hotel and food for 3 days you have spent 500 euros before you change your money to sterling and where we went was a 1200 mile trip we were knackered after it if boat prices here were like this last year
i never would have travelled also you need someone with engine expiriance ie compression tests so you dont get caught

fair play thanks man was lookin at orkney 19 with jonhson 50 four strok . but some one told me it would be slow enough bear in mind i dont need a rocket but want to get around too what ya think how would you value that boat

depends on what your looking for are you going to launch and retrieve or keep it on moorings what size boat do you want do you want to be able to stand and fish off a deck or stay sitting how much do you want to spend i bought a 21 ft with good deck space but found the engine abit small it moved no prob but i felt it was alittle underpowered to go to far a field
so fished in a 3 mile radius of my mooring it was a 40 hp yamaha ive since had to change it for a suzuki 115hp the world is my oyster now ha ha theres loads to owning a boat you dont think of the expense only starts when you buy one heres a few i faced when i got mine new prop for the engine 170 euros service 100 euros auxcillery engine 350 euros lifejackets x 4
280euros flares 100 euros ancheor chain rope 160 euros fenders 70 euros not to mention 300 mooring fee 100 euros for placing the mooring 350 euros insurance i spent 2 months sanding and painting anti fouling and making it look beautiful stick say 300 for that the boat cost me 7000 euros and the new engine stands me 2000 .ask me was it all worth it ooh yeah
just the freedom of going when you want where ever you want makes it all worth while pick something that suits you and your pocket i cant tell you what you want. try and get something you will be comfortable in fishing there is a small cabin on mine i put a cooker in it its great to be able to make tea and cook on board while your out for a day. also i had plans to do afew nights out but the summer did not play ball but if the wife ever kicks me out i have somewhere to live ha ha .let me know what sort of money your looking to spend and it will give me a better idea of what you have in mind .there is some good looking boats on donedeal at the moment theres a sea hog at 3000 might be worth a look

wow thats great advice in around seven i think 19 ft with small cab like yours . will try to moor in courtown but would be hopin to go to waterford cork and so on too for day trips

well for that sort of money i dont see any problem what i would do pick six boats and view each of them dont make a decision until you have seen them all when you pick the one you want get a mechcanic to check the engine then offer a grand less than the asking price most lads selling a boat have already bought a new one and dont want the hassle of keeping 2 so they really need to shift it also this is a good time to buy they dont want the expense of winter storage il pm you if i see any thing tasty or hear of anyone off loading a good one
