South Connemara 14.10.09

#1 Post by saltydog »

People: nige, stevecrow74 & myself

Duration: 17:15 - 00:15

Tide: HT @ 15:20

Weather: T-shirt stuff

Bait: Sandeel, Mackerel & Squid

Rigs: 3 Hook Loop, 3 Hook Flappers, 1 Up 1 Down , 1 Hook Long Flowing

Results: Doggies, Huss, Conger, Whiting, Coalies.

Report: Nige faniced a crack at some raymonds so we set off for Connemara. The blues skies and sunshine led us to to a beer garden on route for a quick pint bottle with ice :) We got fishing shortly after 17:00 steve was first in with a doggie then he set up his spining rod and starting fishing close in as we had spotted some garfish on the way out and thought they might be knocking around. Steve was in again with some whiting on the spinning rod i was up next with a whiting coalie double. Steve then starting hammering whitting and coalies think he ended up with 12 coalies and 14 whiting  good few counters in there too... Nige got in on the act with some whiting and coalies i think he clocked up 6/7 of each. We got a run of dogs with 11 for myself 9 for steve and 3 for nige. I had a small huss and lost a much better one about 10ft out he bit through the 30lb snood  just as nige was heading off i got a strap conger. Myself and steve fished on for another hr or so with steve getting a small huss and me some more doggies. Enjoyable session pity about the lack of ray but plenty to keep us busy all the same.

nice session guys, pity the Thornie's didn't come out to play  with this cold weather moving in and the water temp; dropping i think they are starting to move out, well up here at fahan anyway  there is still a few being got on down the lough around buncranna pier. so yesterday i fished a mark closer to the mouth of the lough swilly for and hour and got four decent ones around the 5 to 6lb mark.

PS, nice pic's conor, and good to see steve back out again, hows his leg now :?:

Howdy Gerry the Ray will still feed after dark. In fact some of the best Ray i've caught have been after dark and quite a few up your next of the woods in Clifden Bay

Hey Don thats nice fishing you had all decent sizes there 8) This time last year we had a good few Ray on that mark, there's a lot of pressure on them from tangle nets in the area lately which isn't good. We'll be fishing it again soon so fingers crossed there'll be a few caught be nice to see there's some left in it as there's an awful lot been dumped close by :(
