Catching Herring
Is it possible to caysh herring with Rod and line here in Ireland? I know that they are caught from the shore in the Baltic using very small mackeral like lures that are luminous green in color. They come in strings of 4 and the weight is quite light, flattened and coloured white and red which is supposed to attract the fish. I'm know that they can be caught in great numbers. Any comments anybody?

Bills right bout the herring best time around belfast lough is from june to july when the shoals are passing on their way to the isle of man to spawn then you get another run of them in september ,we use mustad shrimp rigs which have a small enough hook as herring have pretty small mouths .
suppose if you wanted to target them from the shore you could try fish a trace of feathers around the gobbins cliffs sometime in june ,but i think it might be a bit far for you to travel just to catch some herring  presuming your from galway caz . you could ask some fo the local trawler men  and see if you get a certain time of year when the herring are around .
