last year there was meant to have been a few caught to specimen weight off castlerock beach on plugs , but then chat went around that they were actually taken in the bar mouth area of the bann and the guys had no permit or something??? nothing to say that you wouldnt get them from the beaches on plugs and spinners though!tried a day last year at various points along the benone and downhill beaches but to no avail. :(
when mate was at univeristy in coleraine he used to spin for them of the rocks at portstewart ,he reckeoned the best time was around day break or last light in the evening,he caught a fair few but he's always been a jammy git
Agree with phil about the reports about bar mouth i also heard someone was getting bass on plugs and spinners trolled in and around that area ,not sure on the need for licences or permits though as i think its a tidal estuary ,maybe need to check that one out .

Bann estury is controlled by Bann Systems Ltd. and you do need a permit. Even worse it's a game permit you have to get.
If anybodys interested, theres a shoal of massive Bream that hang about the bay at the back of Portstewart golf club / sand dunes. Plenty of 10lb plus fish.
Still have to buy a game permit for to fish for them.

Marty,
As its a designated game fishery you can't fish maggots, corn etc or groundbait. Brandlings work a treat and redworms found amongst the rotting waste at the high tide mark work too. It also helps if you accidently spill a tin or two of sweetcorn about 20 yards in front of where you're fishing.
Apologies for getting off sea angling.
