Sea Angling Ireland SAC - not doing too badly

At the moment SAC hold both major shore titles - the Jimmy Smith All-Ireland Open Shore (Sean Ivory) and the IFSA National Shore Masters (JP Molloy). We also have Mark Beatty representing Ireland in Montenegro, and Eric Gasparro represented Ireland in the Home Internationals at under 21 level. We have come a long way since our first club competition just four years ago!

I second that and for the first time I was able to understand the scoring system too which has been a total mystery to me

How did SAI manage to get 4 people into the Boat master angler this year?
& when do SAI announce the boat fixtures for next year, I'd love to join in the coming year, but there would be no point unless there was a meet or two within a couple of hours drive.

92 members last year- you get an extra rep every 25 members,so as we had over 75 we had 4 reps.

SAI fixtures will be scheduled after we have details of all major IFSA etc Opens.

Mark Beaty finished 20th in the world championships and was the top Irish angler.

Sea angling Ireland also retained the Jimmy Smith All Ireland Championships with a Pete Davis win last weekend.

going to try and get to a couple of meets myself next year. It would be great if you could pencil in a venue up north for a competition. somewhere like fahan, waterfoot, Benone (pete's new fav. spot hehe)

Fahan sounds like a great spot for a comp.

It is a better spot for a meet to be honest.

Its like fishing into a pond with thirty other lads fishing the same forty yard casts.

If there is fish going there it would be hard to run a comp there.

it can be a difficult place to fish. best times from my own experience is the small tides. ie a 1.2m low - 2.8m high. there can be plenty of fish caught but with a smaller tide you need to be able to cast a little further

Your fishing a channel keith, its a nice spot but wouldnt make a fair comp venue. There are other beaches up there, Leenan, Culdaff etc we could hit and a meet the following day or whatever at fahan.

Cool have never fished Fahan just seen reports and it looks a cracking spot even for an auld plessure session.

i would like to suggest that maybe at some of the sai fixtures next year that the club holds a novice competition along side the match competition
maybe supply a bit of bait and a few rod stands and a few rigs,limit the set up of rod and reel to less then 100 euro to encourage lads with the cheaper gear to take part
if the novice can take part in a competition where they are not up against a match angler they might feel better about taking part in the competition also have one match angler there only to give advice and tips

if more people see how the club works it might encourage them to join and boost the club membership

This is an open invitation to anyone who wishes to pop down at any stage, meet some of the lads and see how a comp is run. If you arent a member, you cant fish the comp, however, gurteen is a big beach and there will be loads of room either side of us. Come along, see how the lads set up and how they get on, have a chat and have a go yourself. Noone cares what rod or reel you bring or how much it cost. We all started somewhere. If your rigs arent suitable im sure between us well manage something. I know i am only along for a bit of fun so loads of time for chatting etc. Bring sandeel or mackerel and you are sorted. We are expecting thornbacks, dogs and huss. Come along and dont be shy, we dont bite.

We shouldnt forget the small boats exploits either with Martyn Rayner skippering his crews to first place in Rosslare and 2nd place in the Cork small boats festivals for 2 years running.
