Big Wrasse, Pollack & Garfish Co. Sligo 7th & 8th October 09

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People: Myself & the girlfriend

Duration: Wed 7th 3 hrs, Thurs 8th 4 hrs

Tide:Filling

Weather: Good. light winds

Bait: Limpet & Spinner

Rigs: 1 Hoop Flapper

Results: Wed 7th : 6 Ballan Wrasse. Thurs 8th : 5 Ballan Wrasse, 1 Garfish, 6 Pollack

Report: Wednesday 7th & Thursday 8th

Wednesday 7th

With a few hours to spare I got the gear ready & headed to a mark to see if I could tempt any big Wrasse. Got there around 11 o’ clock, baited up was straight in with a small Wrasse followed by a couple more around 1.5lb mark, it slackened off with the odd bite for an hour until they were on the feed again, but all small no big ones about which was strange for this mark but was happy enough to get a few :) .

Thursday 8th

Weather was looking good, winds were light & so off we went to a nice deep mark where I’ve been getting some big Wrasse in past few weeks on Limpets & didn’t fail to produce Wrasse from the start, hooked one nice Wrasse 3lb.7oz a quick photo & off she went.

With the tide on the fill we decided to hit another mark. After a bit of a hike on with a spinner, first cast a 1 lb Pollack, third cast was a Coalie that managed to get free at the last minute followed by a tiny Pollack, as I was reeling it in a big dark shadow made a snap at it but just missed it :x . The next 10 or 12 casts not a bite then suddenly hooked a Garfish they give a great scrap if only they grew to double figures!! Got a few miniature Pollack, then on the last few casts hooked a good Pollack it made five or six great runs & nearly got under the ledges at one stage but luckily with a struggle got it to the surface, it made another good dive before I got it landed with the aid of a big wave, a fine Pollack over 60cm long & tipped the scales at 6.lb 8) my biggest of the year so far.
