Report:Got a text from Fishface on Wed night which led me to believe he was landing large 30cm+ monster whiting from Wicklow Harbours new pier."WHITING, 30CMS+, LARGE AND FAT",,,,,,,,,,,well what would you think
"Right" says I,,,,,,,,"I'll have some of those beauties 
",and I was actually wondering where i'd source a good filleting knife for all the monsters i'd catch. With that thought in my mind i headed down through the rush hour traffic on the m50 to Wicklow."It'll be worth it", I said to myself as i sat in the car at 10kmph bumper to bumper.Fishface rang me,"Where are you?",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"Relax i'm on the way", says I thinking I must be missing all the action.I eventually got down to the new pier ,,,,I thought i was on the lighthouse side for a moment till i realised it was just Mitch and Fishface with their Petzl Ultras on 
.A few minutes later i was casting out a nice bit of rag on a sharp hook . I got a bite, reeled in and a fine whiting of 10 cms was landed 
This didnt put me off and i recast and set up the second rod. 3 hooks in the water now and not long before 3 whiting were landed ."I thought I'd get 30 cms with just one fish,not between the 3",I joked as i put them back. Then Neil landed a BIG one which turned out to be 24cms, and the first 5 cms is missing from my measure due to an unfortunate accident involving my boot lid.It dawned on me that these BIG ones might be the 30cm+ ones he had caught the night before , after all even with all his fancy tackle he doesnt have a measure and at his advanced age things might look bigger without his spectacles(as he calls them) . There followed an onslaught of whiting, biggest about 26cms 
for the next hour or so and Mitch and I realised that we wouldnt be filleting any whiting tonight . On a positive side Mitch had a nice plaice, followed by a few decent flounders and Dabs, and a codling. I also had some Dabs and a codling. Fishface didnt get any plaice, flounder, dabs or codling,,,,,just whiting(not 30cms ),,,,though he did claim to get both male and female whiting .Under interrogation he later let slip that he didnt like fishing alone and wanted some company Maybe by next Feb or March the whiting will get to 30+. Still ,it was a bit of craic and we got out for a while
