sat 3rd oct at cushendun beach

#1 Post by minty »

People:me and the brother

Duration:6 till mid-night

Tide:rising

Weather:windy but dry

Bait:rag mack squid mussles prawns

Rigs:single hook clipped and flappers

Results:me....1 coalie brother... 1crab

Report:was hoping to head south or donegal but the tides and the winds were against us so we decided to hit cushendun beach as i thought it would offer a little bit of shelter..got set up under the goal posts and conditions were looking good for an evening session. how wrong we were   , no matter what rig or bait that we used was stripped in minutes  ,after about half an hour the lad fishing beside me told me that he was being tortured with crabs, so the penny finally dropped as to why we were using so much bait, i had hoped it was cheeky fish robbing us as bite detection was tough with the winds. no matter what distance we hit we were getting stripped, ended up landing a small coalie when retreiving the rig to rebait, brother then landed a crab that was actually bigger than the coalie. decided to call it a day about 12 as i'd work the next morning and due to the fact that i'd have been lucky to catch a cold
some times catching crabs is a good thing.........or is it...........?

Bad Luck minty, I know the crabs are a pain in the butt personally too

Use a bait floater sponge thingy that lift the bait off the bottom slightly (Im told they work)
