Friday session 2 Duration: 18:00-20:00
Arrived at a one of Dougs marks for this session. A mark that neither myself or Bradan had fished before the tide was on the drop and and the wind was onshore i had one rod with a pennel rig big mackerel bait banged out and we both fished in close. We were joined by 3 other anglers for this session. One of the lads reeled in a nice flounder and not to be out done so did Bradan with a 38cm i picked of a smaller flounder Bradan was in again and again he got 4 flounder in four cast just as we were packing up i had a treble shot of flounder that put us level at 4 flounder each. Off to the Helm in Westport for a quick pit stop then back to Galway.
Sunday Duration 12:30-16:30
Bradan and myself headed upto Wesport on Saturday evening and had a few drinks in the Helm the headquarters for the Skate Festival which was on over the weekend. Enjoyable evening talking with many people who share a common interest in fishing. We surfaced on Sunday and made our way to Dougs shop were we bumped into to doggie3131 and the lads. It soon became apparent that we were all heading to the same spot Inis Gort one of the Islands in Clew Bay. The Western Regional Fisheries Board R.I.B. kindly ferried us all out. Noel and the boys were setup when we got there on the Soutern side of the Lighthouse. We headed to the Northern side of the Island and fished into a deep bay. One of the guys had a good rattle but no hook up Pete had a cracking flounder. Nothing much else was happening so after a quick chat some of us decided to move Doug and a few lads went around the shoreline to the Eastern Side of the side of the Island. While myself & Bradan who promised me a Huss headed over the hill to the South Eastern side. There was a strong tidal run coming through the channel in front of us so grip leads on and first casts were sent out. My lead seemed to be holding at first but slowly started going with the current. I picked up the rod to reel it in and felt dead weight big raft of kelp i thought got it moving towards me then i couldn't budge it, must have caught the bottom i thought i stood there for a couple of minutes with a big arch in the rod trying to ease myself off the bottom when the bottom started to pull back
Must say a big thanks to Bradan for the invite and The Western Regional Fisheries Board for taking time out to ferrying us all to Inis Gort. Thanks also to Doug from A Shore Thing for providing us all with bait and showing me a few new marks over the weekend sound fella and thanks to Vincent Keogh and all the staff in the Helm for their hospitality first class.
