Westport Island
People Me, DavyP, Doggie, James John and others names I forgot:
Duration 12pm - 7 pm:
Tide low to high:
Weather better than forecast :
Bait Me Sandeel, Mack, Black lug, Squid:
Rigs single and double hook pulleys, float:
Results Dogfish 1 spider crab and 3 pollack:
Report
We were all meant to meet up on Westport quay at 1115 - to 11.45 but to Dougs surprise everyone had arrived by 10.45, so we headed off to Rosmoney to get the rib to go to an island in Clew Bay, when we got on the Island DavyP, Doggie, James, John and a couple of others had set up and were fishing. after introductions and a quick chat with the lads, I set up.
Put on single pulley rig on 4/0 baited with Sandeel, as we were anticipating big Huss and Conger along with the obligatory nuisance fish that can save a blank day, unlike my last 3 trips.
Noel lived up to his name and was first in with a Dogfish then everyone followed in, except me and I thought it must be true doggies dont like sandeel, all seemed to be plagued by dogfish and me not even a sniff of a bite. so I changed me bait to a half side of Mack and sent it out, within a minute I had a bite but missed it, but left it where I struck too then bang, I struck hard and thought hell Im into something big, the rod was almost double as I struggled to reel in, when I got it in, it was my first dogfish of the a bit under a couple of foot long. blank saved so then I went back to sandeel, started to have a few knocks but nothing to "write home about" but always the bait had been hammered. then after a couple of hours of nothing, the rod went mental I struck and was in again struggling to bring it in with the rod bending away and pulling back after what seemed like couple of minutes, I landed a nice spider crab !! then it went slack with the tide coming in.
I changed to a float and sent it out turned round to put me lead and hooks back in me box and couldnt see my float, reeled in a small pollack, had 2 more before session end to mackerel strip.
A very enjoyable day and good craic with thanks to DavyP, Doggie and lads, really nice to meet you at last and may this be the first of many we fish together around the shore's
Thanks to WRFB for supplying the transport even if the petrol was low on the way in and had us wondering if the oars would be put to use !! and Doug of A Shore Thing for organising it and Online fishing tv for filming

Re: Westport Island
great day out - good to meet Wozza for the first time - and discover that him and james are virtually neighbours of mine
, will be spot on to have somebody to drive to and from venues with
an great to get out again with noel and john - been far too long, weather was brillant, as was the craic.
even managed to catch a few fish - the usual doggies, along with a few small wrasse, scorpion fish, and some sort of gobbie - which had me squeal like a girl when it appeared under a bunch of weed on the line - thought it was a weever
, ended the day with a fairly hefty Spider Crab -
would have been nice if the raymonds and huss had made an appearance - but sure thats fishin.
missed seeeing conors Huss - but saw the other "smaller" one - awesome fish,
thanks to all who made the day happen.

Hi Lads
Many thanks to you all for your comments It was a great day with lovely scenery, as is the Mayo, Sligo, Galway & Donegal coasts .
The link to where the film will be broadcast is http://www.onlinefishing.tv/ they were mainly keen on the Skate fest from what the camera man told me,and we were supplementary extras to stop the boredom of waiting for Skate, so you never know what will happen.
Hey Noel sorry mate didnt mean to step on your toes with the report. and there's me thinking you caught that wrasse before you hit the pub ! Lol and must get me hair trimmed for me next photoshoot with you.
Look forward to fishing with you all again soon and meeting other lads off the board .
