Wicklow Harbour, 04-10-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me

Duration:1pm-6pm

Tide:falling

Weather:mild,sunny, calm

Bait:rag,mack

Rigs:flappers and mini rigs

Results:pollack, coalies, corkwing wrasse, ballan wrasse, pouting, rock cook, codling

Report:My therapist (wife) said that the best way for me to get over Saturday nights blank in Kilcoole was to get straight back up on the bike, so to speak , and go fishing ,so I made my way back down the N11 armed with some decent rag, thanks Neil  .Decided to pass Greystones and hit Wicklow Harbour for a spot of mini fishing. There were a group of lads there already fishing,,lads that would make you proud to be a Dub   ,,,,,,do I have to say any more :? . Very shy and quiet   , impeccable manners   ,teetotal   ,environmentally aware :? ,you get the picture .I was looking forward to the football tonight on Match of the Day but they saved me the bother of having to watch it as they very thoughtfully had a radio blaring all afternoon tuned in to the Premiership   . .I set up halfway down the back of the wall and Saturday nights blank was well and truly put behind me after the first cast. A steady stream of pollock, wrasse and coalies ensued(love that word,i'd never say it, just write it  ), with the odd pouting thrown in. Nothing on the big rod at distance or mid range so I eventually put it away. Lost the usual few traces to the submerged ropes at the bottom of the wall, but as i was catching plenty of fish I didnt mind it too much  . Got a half dozen decent pollock, around the 30 cm mark ,which are big enough for here.Great craic tussling with them and the wrasse and trying to keep them away from the snags and weed. I got what I think is a Rock Cook Wrasse, which if it is will bring me to 29 species, one away from my target of 30,so heres hoping  Everyone left at about 4-30 pm and I had the place to myself for an hour before Fishface dropped by. I gave him my rod to hold for a moment while I got something to eat from my bag, joking that if he didnt catch anything i'd put it down as a blank for him in the report   Jammy fecker lands a corkwing wrasse within 30 seconds    .A very enjoyable afternoon, just what the therapist ordered
