north beach wicklow

#1 Post by dbrock »

People: myself keaner dodger keith shane h

Duration:7 -10.30

Tide:rising

Weather:nice

Bait:mackeral, rag,

Rigs:tope pullys, 3 hook flappers

Results:tope, codling,flounder,plaice pollock

Report:
decided to have a wee tope session and after having a few before from the north wick i decided to try again ,so phoned the lads and got the gear sorted and of we went,
keith was the first on the beach and was catching plaice from the word go, i had a few small codling and pollock, and graham had a good few flounder,

at about 8ish i was watching my rod shake as they do when someone is reeling you in, then out of know were the reel started screaming,, grand i taught tope on but unfortunately after a great run he managed to break my main line of something

about 20 mins later my self and graham were discussing what might of happen when he looked over at his rod,," fcuk my rod"
was all i heard and then he ran like a raging bull , struck into a nice tope and the fight was on,,savage watching some one fight one oh a grauvelle dh and shimano ultigra fixed spool, the tope took some lovely runs to wales,
but graham was well on top form adjusting his drag and fighting away, since he was using 15lb mono and has only learned to tie shock leader knots 3 weeks ago
i feared the worse but fair play he landed him self a nice tope and popped his tope cherry,, another one done this year

One Happy man is not the word....I am still wide eyed when I should be in bed as I am up early for work !!!

I am sure Denis's ears are still ringing, As we were talking about the Tope he had just lost my rod started to hop and the Ultegra a week old started screaming, with that I did a Ned Flanders " f.cuk my rod, myrod ha ha" kacked myself !! Id say if there had been glass close by I would have smashed it I went so high :D . ( quickest I have moved in a long time too

As a newbie just back into the whole fishing malarky I cant even begin to describe the buzz off landing such a nice Tope it was truly savage. I think at one stage I said to the lads fcuk this my back is broke I am going back to scratching ha ha. The fight off this thing was nothing I have had before and to land it on a fixed spool with 15lb trilene and god knows what sort of knot plus getting it from the shore makes me more happy !! At one stage Denis says to me you need to bully this thing back Tope was nearly in Wexford ha

Great night had by all and would like to thank the lads, without there help / advice etc I wouldnt of got next to near a tope this evening !!

Now for number 2 8) 8)

Fantastic stuff..

Did you find they were far out from the shore?
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.

Thanks folks for the kind words.
To try answer some of the questions.

I caught the Tope on a 3 hook flapper with Rag...nice big juicy ones
I used frozen mack, some of us had halfs on some had full macks on !!

As for the rigs we used the snow chains off dennis's van, knew they would come in handy
Havent a clue...big strong ones
