Report:
this was my last trip to clare before christmas, I had a few fairly fruitless trips over the summer with nothing but a few small flounder and a doggie to show for a full weeks fishing in july , mainly due to the bloody awful weather and this weekend looked ot be heading in the same direction. Although I did manage my first bass hook up (and loss) on a lure one afternoon.

Arrived friday night, tides were wrong for any bait digging and too late for any buying of frozen bait, due to some unforseen babysitting duties I didn't manage to get any lugs dug or frozen bait bought til saturday afternoon, rain and exhaustion after looking after a 9 month old for much of the day caused me to retire early on saturday after many a wistful look at the incoming surf on lahinch beach.

with about 30 lug in the bait bucket and packets of sandeel, crab and razor all turning ripe in the backyard I decided i'd have to get some time in rather than let them go to waste, so being lazy I decided to fish on the first set of steps down from the church rather than the last set on the prom where I've generally had some success... Had a big bite first cast, missed the hook up though and cursed my luck, second cast and within seconds had a bite, thought it was a small pollock to start with but was delighted to see a small bass of about 1.5 lbs come out of the surf... got a round of applause from the gallery that had formed behind me (unnoticed by me) . Fish was inelegantly returned , must have looked like a juggler on acid trying to get a hold of the fish and return him. Baited up again happy to have finally got my first 2009 bass when I got a another stong hit, couldn't believe it when a second bass of the same size in and duly sent back out . Really reminded me of why I love this fishing lark so much!

Both fish were caught on the lug on the bottom hook, crab and razor ignored. Determined to go back to fishing over the rtocks at the southern end of the beach next summer on the lures

:)
