east cost raiders MA #6 ballynamona 26/9/09

#1 Post by eric »

People: 8 turnrt out

Duration: 10am to 3pm

Tide: up and over the top of the tide

Weather: great

Bait: maddies,rag,lug,wraps,mack,herring,sandeel.......

Rigs: flappers and clip downs from what i could make out, no secret stuff

Results: plenty of flounder, a few turbos, 2 dogs and a couple of happy codling

Report:

leg 6 six of our master angler series, work, holidays and alcohol, meant we would have a small enough turn out today, however the weather gods where smilling. expected species where mainly flats, with the possibilty of a dog or two at distance. at 10 past 10, a slightly late start, i put three small lug n maddie baits tipped with mack, up onto the sand bar in the hope of a flounder or two. masterkeane, fishing his first ever comp, got off to flying start with a treble, all undersize  , i took the lead with 22cm counter after my first cast.
after a few more casts it was appearent the local flatties where more than obligingto dine out, more so on the higher pegs than the lower pegs, but everyone was catching. i eventually added a lovely undersize yet perfectly formed baby turbot to my talley, although tiny i was delighted to see him. a few more flats later, had myslef, denis and masterkeane all in the mix. i added another counter, which made a big difference in the scores. just after tide peaked myself and denis went out for dogs, launching sandeel baits into a patch of rough ground about 110/120 yards out. would you believe it, without noticing any sort of bite i found myself trying to free a dog out of the rough stuff, he eventually came out of it was soon beached :D happy days. fishaholic soon followed suit. a few more fruitless casts at distance, led to me coming back in in search of flats, as the tide ebbed the fish began to switch off with only singles coming in now and then. masterkeane was still catching well, shane h was also starting to notch few up too. denis persisted at distance taking a couple of undersize codling, but try as he may fishaholic's dog signalled the end of the dog action.
the last hour saw the flats starting to come on the feed again, i added another turbot to the list and another counter of 26cm, saldy my biggest flat of the day :x last cast saw me into one last counter, blessed and jammy are not the words, the diffrence between 19 and 20cm is cruel, match angling can be most fickle!

well done to masterkeane, his first comp, only really fishing a few months, pulled 16 fish out of the bag for second place!

was an amazing day to be out with pleanty of fish been caught, i had 10 myself after 3 hours and spent the last 2 hours in a fruitless search for dogs,
try as i might i couldn get a fish in all day, all undersized,
so as typical on the flounder venues i finished last  a trend which also happened in kaats strand later with eric and fintan
