sligo flounderfest, 23.9.09

#1 Post by davyp »

People:me

Duration: 5ish to nineish

Tide: LW 2.40

Weather: windy overcast, dry

Bait: Lug, squid mack

Rigs: 3 hook flapper, 2 up

Results: 9 flounder :D :D :D 1 doggie

Report:

Actually got it together to dig some lug and got about 40 monster lug and 1 white ragworm

the mark looked the dog b*****x , spot on surf and conditions, put a 3 hook flapper with lug out, and then two bigger baits on the other rod (well you can live in hope  ) - big lug and squid cocktails.

was pretty much a flounder a cast from the outset - with one double :D gettin as many on the big baits - easier to unhook too -- tried mack on the cocktails and had a doggie straight away - so gave up on that idea.

an hour before HW everything stopped and nada for about an hr hour and a half, then 2 more flounder - right at the end

towards the end also had the joy of cracking off twice in row with the bigger baits   only had a few gripp leads so was well peeved

all fish mostly good size 30cm+ ish, with 2 smaller bout 25.

a few were very deep hooked - was hard to detect bites with the wind, so kept them for the pan - quick zap in the fryinpan with olive oil - feckin tasty

what a buzz - another cracking session - feel like i'm writing someone elses reports this last while :D

have a pic, will post tomorrow.

its been great to have the time - best part of the recession   problem is i reckon i must have spent a months worth of dole on diesel in the last week :D :D :D , will see if i can make thurday - have really been overdoing it so might not be allowed

zeke wrote:well done davy nice catch there...i went to our Bass mark but no luck :( blanket of weeds at the moment, instead caught loads of flatties

Them big tides last week really have weed everywhere - out today one of the beaches had mountains of weed on it seriously chunky big braches of kelp - nice one on the flatties, them sligo Bass better watch out, will be interesting to see if a few more turn up

seanie35 wrote:good man davy your on a roll :D

I had pretty much given up on sligo after a bizzillion blanks last year - but its deffo made up for it this autumn

ah Hugo - was scouting out your part of the world today - very nice - , I'll definitly be back, surfers were aboutthat day but sound - talked to a few of the guys on the way over, and they stayed clear which was cool - one guy on a wee kayak type thing cut accross my line once - dont think he even knew i was there- managed to communicate with hand signals that i was unimpressed  8) , and he didnt come back
