Vacum packer

Does anybody out there know where one could be bought or how much they actually cost. Thanks for any help.

They can be very pricey and cheap ones don't work too well. If its Sandeels or macko etc you are looking to vacum down and freeze I would suggest you get zip lock bags twice to three times the size of the bait and use an old hover tapered down to a McDonalds straw and away you go. It works really well, only when the bags are much bigger than the bait, if you try stuff a load of eels into a small bag and attempt this the air will get back in and you will eventually get bait with freezer burn.

I remember seeing one of these on one of the shopping channels on sky at one stage, and they did vacuum pack fish as an example - it was a professional grade vacuum-pack but a reasonable price / size - just can't remember what it was called.

Still were in the Blanch up till last week anyway

yep the lidl ones semm to work ok for me i currently have just vacume paced bout 30macks so hopefully the survive the winter.

I didn't get one because I wondered what you did when your roll of bags ran out. Could you use another type or where could you buy them. Anyway they did a smoker too and that is where all my Mackies went 8)

i just simply used normal zip lack bags its workin fine so far.

Here's a tip that a mate told me about but I haven't tried myself so I couldn't comment on how good it actually works:

Put you bait into the bag, then put the bag into a bucket of water, holding the open top of the bag clear of the water. This expells the air. Close the bag, and dry off the outside. Voila, vacum packed bait without a vacum packer.

If you try it, let me know if it works.......... :D

I've used this method with some succcess - Ziploc bags and leave the corner open when under water. Not as good as vacuume but it works if your bait has rounded contours

i have wrapped my mackeral in clingfilm and when frozen through placed them in newspaper. they have kept fine for a couple of months this way and have all been used before i found their freezer life span. the flesh kept firm and i'll never buy the stuff again- nuff said!

i like that idea Tanglerat! it a good 'un! i will try it soon.
