Buncrana Peir Donegal. Sun 20/9/09

#1 Post by rodbender »

People:Me

Duration:0900-2100hrs

Tide:LW1353 HW2007

Weather:Overcast/sunny spells, Windy/ More windy

Bait:Squid Mackeral Bluey

Rigs:Runnin Ledger,paternoster

Results:1Mackeral 1Doggie 1Coalie 1Ray

Report:Wind blowing directly on to the peir and the water was all churned up. :x :x Fished hard and tried everything with no results. About 5ish the water was clearing nicely and started to get a few bites. 1st in was a small coalie and the next cast produced a mackeral :D :D 1st mackeral Ive caught this year. A slight knock produced a small ray closely followed by a good thump on the other rod, only old faithful, doggie. Nothing else followed and by 2100 it was blown a gale so packed up and went home like a good boy( more because I left the rag in the fridge and didnt want to go to Teelin without them) :( Good excuse to get out tonight again

Sounds good once the water cleared, must give Bunkers a go some time, never been down there fishing before! Are the rays plentiful off the pier or would I be better to go up to Fahan? Also does the Pier fish better at high or low water generally?

Any that came down stayed on the slip or to the side. Maybe they felt intimadated by the size of my rod or maybe it was because I just happen to mention that braid cuts through line like a knife through butter

Probably fishes best an hr before and 2hrs after LW for the rays but it fishes right through the tides.
