just wondering if anyone can help me here. Was wondering what fish can be caught from here at this time of year and over next few months during the day. What baits would be best?Any advice on tactics?
Or would killcool be a better option?
any help is very welcome. thanks lads and happy fishing.

Sorry about the lack of responses - but there are a lot of places called Newcastle. If you say Newcastle, Co Down or something to narrow it down, I'm sure some of the lads will have something to say.....

I think he means the Wicklow one...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Newcastle during the day can be tough to say the least but you will get fish. Two good spots both up the to the north of the beach. The first spot is right at the end of the stone wall, there is some rough ground there and fishing small worm baits during daylight hours will produce Flounder, Dab, whiting and rockling. Fishing fish baits, e.g. sandeel, macko will produce the odd Dog, Whiting, and the occasional Pollock. If you can bring some crab along you have a chance of getting a plaice or codling at distance here.

The second historical spot is the "Grey Shed", about 500 yards more up the beach, its a little steeper and a better chance of a Plaice during daylight hours. Fishing Rag and Crab or Rag and Macko around 60-70 yards out, there are some pea Mussel beds there. You will get similar catches there too as the first mark. Its good to note that the top of the tide fishes best for flatties on this mark and the bigger the tide the better the chance of decent flattie bashing, i.e. anything over 3.95 metres!.

Otherwise invest in a headlamp and hit Kilcoole at night for Tope  !

Tight Lines,
Rob.

I heard a few reports from Wicklow of them being caught but its still a bit early in the season for them. I would say November will throw up a few.

Both points on the beach have produced good fish over the past three years! Also the start of Ballygannon on the North side tends to throw up a few!
