#1 Post by gfkelly1969 »

People:myself

Duration:15:00 to 20:30

Tide:high 18:54 5.4m

Weather:dry with gales

Bait:mackerel,sand eel,pawns,crab,mackerel feathers

Rigs:2 hook flapper,conger traces,mackerel feathers

Results:5 pollack

Report:went to my conger spot too see if there were any around after about 1 hr hooked a decent conger but lost him trying to drag him up the rock   i had only 3 foot to go and he was safe, the 25lb main line snapped  wouldn't mind but it was put on new this morning on the reel,it a hard spot to pull conger from because the rock is stepped and over hangs and the big swells didn't help as well but i will keep trying and i will get one out yet
tried the feathers when it started to get dark and got the 5 pollack had to head home before it got too dark as i had a bit of a cliff walk

Hard luck with the conger, but at least you were fishing in such amazing scenery.

some big conger there but its hard to pull the conger out because the rocks are sharp and i have to try work the conger around rocks to get to a spot i can lad them  got a small conger in a different spot a few weeks back but now i want to land a big one,the conger the last day i would say was 15lb+,lovely fish and great fighters :D

that's the spot on the sky road damian, its a bit of a walk to get to it,you have to walk all along the cliff in the photo, nice mixed ground around there sand, weed, rocks and deep water plus if the wind is from the south the water seems to wash out along the coast and then turns in to that spot,i think the conger wait for anything that washes out, dont know what type of ground bass like but i feel if there is any around clifden they could be there

pretty rough there on Sunday as you can see in the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtRvMRDa9js

Howdy Gerry, try putting on a heavy leader to save your mainline or if your already using one, lenghten it to whatever the drop is that you have to get the conger up. That way you'll be straight onto the heavy line. Should give you a fighting chance hopefully...
