Tide: rising h.w about 12.30amish
Weather:calm dry and about 12degrees
Bait:freshly dug lug
Rigs:3 hook flapper
Results: bass x 1
Report:after messing up the tides on friday i had no bait so legged it down this
evening and dug about 30 lug which took forever as i brought the wrong headlamp!
batteries very weak! i reckon i only saw one in five worms as i dug
til the tide was filling the hole so i reckoned, time to fish.
off i went and set up. first cast at half nine, i could see the rod tip slightly pulling as the crabs stripped my bait as well as getting a few small taps from codling/whiting along the way.
thinking this would be it for the night(similar to my last 2/3 trips) i figured 2 or three more casts to end the session especially as my lamp was failing fast, only switching it on to bait up!
just before half ten the rod-tip bounced back and the line went slack!
i took the slack and then the pull, i was in, deadly i thought, didn't seem too big at first
and then it took line, keeping the tension on the line i slowly tightened the drag a bit and
at the same time the bail-arm flipped and the rod went up in the air and the line flew out like a cast, sh*! i thought that was it, reeled in fast and steady and the fish was still on.
it was trashing the water surface at about 25metres! i gradually played it to the shore and
landed a nice bass of around 5lbs+.
very happy after an hours fishing i did one more cast to finish this short but enjoyable session.
having two identical lamps leaving the good one and bringing the bad one will not happen again!
