snood lengths, what line do you use?
Just wondering what other people use, i use maxima chameleon and stren flourocarbon, find them both fairly good but is there the "perfect" snood line out there especialy for light snood lengths in 10 and 12 lbs.Tried 12 lb segur flourocarbon and was not impressed and it cost €23 for 50 metres

smoothies will wear line down if your catching few, not mention the dogs that freuent their area, they can also get wrapped up in the trace too, using extra heavy line saves you having to keep putting on a new trace, smoothies dont seem to be line shy either

to be honest i never but brand line for snoods, i just grab a spool from my kit and away i go!
once it kinks twists/eel mess! i just remove and replace, two half bloodknots to my hook and trace and brand new again. if i catch a decent fish i will replace the snood or fishing rough areas i check as i bait up,works well for me

Bigsod quote "Tried 12 lb segur flourocarbon and was not impressed and it cost €23 for 50 metres

i reckon the shop could see you from 50 metres with yer €23. don't be doing that!
i bought 60metres of shock leader for €6 and use it for traces and change the snoods
when needed. same trace in use now for weeks!
the snoods are not from the shock leader, they vary depending on the fishing, 10/15/20lb

Re: snood lengths, what line do you use?
I use a couple of different snood strengths for different beaches. I use 6lb for one and 25lb for another. The worst thing about the 6lb snood is that it has to be replaced after each session but I find it works better for letting the bait bounce about. I use sakuma flourocarbon.

Re: snood lengths, what line do you use?
use different types depending. amnesia in fairness to it does a good job. sometimes the line is a bit rough coming off the spool and it definately has a larger diameter for breaking strain on comparison with other lines. supernatural is a similar line but nicer diameter. haven't tried it as a snood yet but reckon it's worth a shot if you want a clear line. i don't like ultima or stren as it dosen't suit the way i tie knots. i would avoid them personally. maxima chameleon is nice on scratchting rigs and on clipdowns fishing for flats in the estuaries but i don't like it for 'animal' rigs. i don't think it stands up to punishment as well as other lines even in 25lb. it also has a big diameter too. it nicks too easily off rocks. vanish is horrible. adjusting stop knots on the line causes it to fluff. the flouro filler spool is better and it's a lot softer too. have tried vanish transition and while it knots well enough i haven't caught much using it so i have a thing against it now. sightfree isn't bad but it's a little springy. some good anglers use maxima chameleon for most of there shore angling. it's not entirely for me though. it coils up the loop terribly on loop rigs after few fish too.

i get less tangles from eels using long snoods regardless of breaking strain. 2 1/2+ feet.

Vanish is awful stuff, and your spot on amensia is hard to beat for snoods.

Re: snood lengths, what line do you use?
Like rustyhooks, I just used to use whatever mono I had in the box, but have since become a little more refined in my rig making.
Have to say, I started using amnesia, and havent needed to use anything else since. Great stuff, shame they dont do it in 10lb though (or do they

Re: snood lengths, what line do you use?
For the most part some of whatever spool of mono is there will do. I used Amnesia for about a year but found it stretched too much for my liking. A good old moan about it in a tackle and Maxima was suggested as an alternative. So I've been using this over the summer and so far I'm happy enough with it. It's also easier to tie with then the Amnesia which has lead to knots on the hook.

Thats good to know, cheers Al.....any plans to wet a line tomorrow?
Re: snood lengths, what line do you use?
two things
amnesia and flourocarbon are totaly dif in they way they are seen in the water
flourocarbon is 99% see threw in the water and the amnesia is only 60%
i use both my self i use the flourocarbon when using live bait when fishing for bass (smart ole fish)
and everything else i use amnesia .
i have found the amnesia fray,s very fast and quickly goes white from the salt and makes it very noticable
only down falls of the flourocarbon is the price and if it gets a good hammering off a good size bass it slips the knot
there is a knot you use for the flourocarbon it works well but hard to do when the wind is blowing you off the rocks
maxima seems to be the best i used so far
next time your bass fishing try both types of snood flourocarbon will come out on top
we have tried it

Re: snood lengths, what line do you use?
use stretchy/crap line about 5-8lbs when out for flatties on your snoods - even downsize the body line also - youll have a bit of craic instead of reeling in teabags you dont even know are on!

Re: snood lengths, what line do you use?
Thanks for all the replys lads, the maxima is hard to beat alright, although i agree with mb3 on the coiling on loop rig .While i agree with you rustyhooks that normal mono catches fish, as you have shown with some fine fish over the last few weeks, im looking for a snood length that wont spook fish in daylight conditions and give the bait natural movement while also not tangling into a horribble mess.

try the seaguar spool filler line, its 20 euro for 300m, its a lot nicer than the leader version
