Re: Best rod for light tackle lure fishing ?
Best rod ever at the weight class ...? The Daiwa Amorphous Stalker 11' 6" 1.5lb test curve. I have never seen anything to come even close. If I could take one rod to heaven with me to cover everything from sea fishing to salmon to carp/tench/trout/whatever after I die it would be that rod.
Currently available?
Look at 11' 6" specialist barbel rods, made from the best carbon you can afford, eg by Century or Daiwa. For the weights you mentioned you want a 1.5lb to 1.75lb test curve.
An excellent allpurpose but slight heavier rod is the Supercast Bass, rated 2 - 4oz. Look very hard at that before buying whichever rods you find.
EDIT: There is also the Mike Ladle Surespin 11' which is in the Mk II version. The original was nice, and is a good length and strength for light to medium spinning.

Re: Best rod for light tackle lure fishing ?
Hi
There's many differnet rods knocking around for lure fishing and it totally depends on your requirements and these days the budget. I have heard alot of good things about the Sakura range of lure/plugging rods which seem to be very popular on the continent. Im not totally sure but I think they're around the 150 mark but they are suppose to be alot of rod for that money. Maybe someone else here can shed some more light on them for U.

Re: Best rod for light tackle lure fishing ?
I have the Mike Ladle 1010 Pro and its absolutely excellent. Well able to put a light lure a bit of distance and allows fish to give account of themselves. My only criticism would be that the tip is a bit too soft for putting action into some lures. I've seen the Sakura Shukan and its now on my Santa list

Thats the one Pat, from what I have heard it is suppose to be quiet good, I had a Mike Ladle Sure Spin mk II I could not fault it for general lure fishing such as toby's, german sprats kilty's and so on, but for surface lures and some diving plugs you do need rod designed for this and I think the sakura would really suit, like I said earlier you get a lot of rod for your money!!

Re: Best rod for light tackle lure fishing ?
i dont do a while lot of lure/spinning, but when i do i use one of my carp rods, 12' 2.75lb test curve, you can stand allday with it in your hand for its that slim and light, even when fishing bait i would use one, 3oz lead+bait and it casts it out no problem. my best thornie last year was over 14lb, got on the carp rod.
as ole rab c said " see me' see the sea' i love the sea me"

I have a Mike Ladie SureSpin 1010 Pro - 3 piece rod - A great rod. I reckon that is the best value for you money.- and it hasn't broken yet unlike another brand mentioned in several replys to your post. I have heard several cases of that rod breaking - even just casting!!!!!

So what is the rod that broke ? I can't see any reason not to mention it if that is really the case, it might save me and others some money.....

Re: Best rod for light tackle lure fishing ?
Okay, well..................... I bought a Sakura Shukan about 2 weeks ago and read the thread on the other forum with my guts in a knot at first. But then I read all of the other stories about other rods by different manufacturers breaking and I'm not so worried, I don't think there is a built in problem with the rod ( I bloody hope not !).
I was very disappointed to read about it breaking though because until today I have to say I have had absolutely no worries about it at all and have been extremely happy with it so far and glad I bought it. I have used it loads since buying it and have nothing but praise for it. I will keep an eye on its performance.
Anyone else heard of problems with the Sakura ?

I hope it performs up to expectations. I would guess that it is probably only a minute fraction of the rods that have a problem - those guys that bought ones that snapped were probably just very unlucky.

Sorry to hear that, provided the rod broke during normal fishing and you didn't fall on it etc. you should be entitled to your money back. Those rods are not cheap and for that price you should expect a better performance.
