Report:on a beautiful monday morning it was decided a "species hunt"was needed,a quick call to conor and a meet on a west galway peir was arranged,as myself and john arrived, we could see conor and another suspicious looking caracter on the pier, turned out to be steve crow

when we got to the end of the pier steve declared a mayo-galway comp!as they were fishing already steve tried to declare two species but as there no evidence,or pics these were declared null and viod!!

but soon we had to concede as he was into a pollock, then a tompot bleeney,we were soon fishing and us mayo lads started to catch up,with a long spined sea scorpion and a pollock for me,and john had a coalie, conor was catching regularly and every time he hooked up all you could hear was "goldsinny, let it be a goldsinny"but it was not to be,no new species for conor,

but steve was the master here,he was catching every five minutes! But then he has had a lot of practice here recently

over the next few hours a steady stream of fish were landed with two new species for me,the long spined sea scorpion, and a tompot bleeney, and two for john,a tompot, and a coalie, but the goldsinny wrasse still avoided conor!but he did add a rock goby to his list,so happy days

then the macky arrived and myself, john, and steve switched over for them, steve was worried as john got a bit of macky fever and his ear nearly got peirced a few times

he bent over to avoid one of johns casts but told john not to get any ideas

john was laughing so hard he nearly took My ear off next cast

while they were distracted i landed four in quick sucession

and then they were gone again!at this stage it was getting dark and we decided to go to a new mark which steve swore would produce loads of flatties

after a quick bite to eat we were sone on the new mark and fishing where we met Bradan who had turned up for a quick session! I was first in with a nice flounder at 30cm,and soon after steve got one

but things quietened down soon after, kevin left soon after leaving conor his lug which was a bit unfair so steve decided to teach me how to hand dig lug!i mean hand dig,no fork

just his hand!!Brilliant, fish and dig at the same time!!

then conor got a flounder and soon after i got my second

things went quiet for the next hour or so and as it was getting late,we decided to pack up,just as we finished conor got the last fish of the night another flounder,so with two for me and conor, steve got outfished on his own beach!!

seriously, thanks lads for a great day,i never laughed as much, and the hints and tips from two serious anglers were invaluble!roll on round two
