Secret Mullet Mark 13th Sept 09

#1 Post by colin c »

People:Davy Murdoch and myself

Duration:a while

Tide:low and filling

Weather:scorchio

Bait:bread

Rigs:float

Results:1 Mullet

Report:Well this was probably going to be my last fishin mission of the year so me and Davy headed off to try and get some mullet.Arrived at the mark to see a few fish which started to feed on the bread straight away but they didnt hang around long. After a while we decided to have a smoke break and figure out where to go next.Decision made we were heading back to the car when we seen a LOT of fish where we were first fishing .Wasnt long till my float got buried and a fish went on a crazy run ,then another run and another and another  This felt like a REALLY good fish and it took me down to the backing 5 or 6 times.Thought it was going to be at least 6lb.Anyway, landed the fish after a 24 minute fight and was shocked to see it wasnt as big as we thought.Only weighed in at 4.5lb but was probably the best fight i have ever had from a fish.
No photo as i didnt want to keep it out of the water any longer after the fight it have given and it swam a way strongly after holding it for a few seconds.
Nice way to finish my fishing season. :D

no point in stopping fishing till the mullet vanish..
you can get out hunting when the tides and weather are crap for fishing..its at the time of year that you are better fishing in the middle of the day anyway

Sounds like a nice fight that colin, I think I'll have to get a run up the coast and see if I can connect with one myself.
btw the way Davy got a shot of your kingfisher friend
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

Congratulations Colin, what a great catch and from another secret mark! Very considerate of you to return the fish immediately saving it from further stress by unnecessary handling and photographing. Novice mullet anglers please note! Anyway a black and white pic would not have done it justice. (OK for magpies but not for Mugilidaes.)
