Buying live sandeel

#1 Post by blaker »

Morning all,

Does anyone know anywhere, anywhere in Ireland where you can buy live sandeel?

I know a plcae to dig them but I need just enough that the idea of digging them is making my back sore already!

Cheers

Steve

Nice one Alby cheers. I was only down there 2 weeks ago and didn't think to ask him. I'll give him a shout now.

Courtmacsherry to Wwaterville and back - the bass had better be focking massive!!

Sorry folks a though just occurs to me. Waterville is the guts of a 200 mile round trip over hills and dales. Am I likely to end up with a pile of dead sandeel after such a trek or will they stand up to that sort of travel?

They might last...... not too sure. An aerator might help.

No for sure, the aerator is the bare minimum I suppose.

I'm just trying to figure out the best way to transport them. I think if you filled the tank to the very very brim you would alleviate some of the sloshing effect of the driving. I just think I'd go bananas if I arrived back in Courtmac with a tank full of dead eels after going to the expense and hassle!!

I think you can layer them in damp newspaper and they'll be fine for a few hours in a cool box.

I read that somewhere but can't remember where

Yeah thats an option alright. I might go for all three options and stick some in paper, some in sand and some in water. If none of those 3 work I'll just assume it wasn't meant to be

half fill the bucket with coarse sand and then water. Try to get the eels to bury themselves in the sand. Its when they are swimming about madly that they burn the O2 out of the water. However you will almost certainly need an aerator.

Courtmac clon and rosscarbery are full of sandeels. You would dig a ton in the time spent driving to Waterville. If you can get some, then put them in a container with holes and find a convienient place to hide them from others. A rock pool that is uncovered at low water or some place will work. That way you will have a supply for a couple of days.

Did somebody say that KB had taken over the tackle shop on the Lee Road and that he could supply live sandeels from there?
I'd say give him a call.

I though I remembered something similar myself Jim but alas no. I spoke to him earlier.

I think in reality I'll have to cop myself on and just dig them myself. The scale of the laziness involved in driving 6 hours to avoid a bit of digging is woeful!

It was/is out beyond the Angler's Rest.
I see from directories it is actually the Inniscarra Road:
Rivers Edge Tackle Inniscarra rd Carrigrohane, Cork,(021)4871771

Was never there myself so have no idea what it is like.
