Report:

DAY 1 ,9TH

,,,met up with Craig from the site in Tramore on Wednesday afternoon shortly after arriving down. One look at that long beach and i knew my gammy knee wouldnt take a 5 mile return trip to Bass point so i suggested driving to a local mark and fishing into the channel there. Its a shorter walk from there and we both set off down the beach with sea trout jumping all around us. Second cast from Craig and he had a take from a bass  , a battle ensued and he landed a fine bass, 3 or 4 pounds weight. What a start but that was to be all we had, or rather what Craig had, i had a blank   , shouldnt have slagged Fishface about Ennereilly on Mon night   ,,little apples and all that   We plugged away for a couple of hours , then returned to Tramore, i'd like to thank Craig for taking the time to meet up and show me the mark,, and how its done (catching bass that is!!).Nice way to pass a few hours on a sunny day!!

Later on I went to Dooleys slip in the town but no joy there for me either and i didnt see any fish being caught, day 1 ends in a blank for Eyes

DAY 2, 10TH

Thursday morning I went to Newtown Cove, a mack bashers paradise the last time i was here but this has been a bad year here as well so im told. The mark was fairly packed and it was just after high tide when i got there. I was fairly high up the rocks(only spot that i could find free) and some Polish guys below me. They were catching wrasse and small pollock, everything into the bag, size definitely didnt matter  .I got a 3 small pollock on rag, and a coalie on the float, so after a shaky start I was off the mark at last   .The rocks are very jagged here, which didnt suit my gammy knee  , and the zips on my Ian Golds backpack picked a bad time to let me down. My headlamp (dont ask me why i brought that here at 10am  ) fell out when the zip parted like the red sea, but i heard it banging off the rocks, luckily no damage done, and put it back in. Later i realised my camera had fallen out when i went to look for it to take piccies of the fish :? .Luck was with me again when i found it in a crevice in the rocks.I was in better spirits when i returned to base to have lunch with Helen, did i mention that this was a weekend away with my wife   , and got ready to meet up with Rockhunter for a bit of Lure fishing at another rocky stretch of coastline, then beach fishing ifurther down the coast.Met Frank and Melissa at 4-30pm at the first mark, a truly spectacular setting which seemed perfect for bass fishing. We set off down the beach with hopes high and soon were casting our lures into likely spots. Frank let me try the Xlayer which had been successful for him. No such luck for me and i tried a few types of lures in different places along the coast . This type of fishing is new to me and you have to be careful and watch the tide coming back in behind you. It was mirror flat calm so it wasnt particularly dangerous but you could get a soaking handy enough. I had to take a leap to stop myself getting cut off at one stage, and me with a gammy knee   .Finally I had some luck when a nice 50cms plus pollock took my imitation mack/dontknowwhatitscalledthingamyjiggy lure   Thats my biggest pollock to date so i was well chuffed and cant thank Frank enough for putting me onto the fish here. I had 2 others in quick succession, one 39cms and the other 32cms, all giving a good scrap and all going back, though we were doubtful for a while about the first one, but he eventually disappeared.I was ecstatic walking back after catching my first few fish on lures and even forgot about my gammy knee as i hopped over the rocks. We decided to head further down the coast to try for bass so half an hour later we were setting up the beach rods, at least me and melissa were, i found out first hand what an important player she is in the angling success story that is Rockhunter   Dusk fell as we sent out our baits into a calm incoming sea and it wasnt long before Frank was into some flounder and whiting. No bass here tonight but i also got some flounder and whiting(thought i'd left them behind on the East coast  ).I bid Frank and Melissa farewell about 10-30pm as i was wrecked from my 3 fishing sessions in one day. Time to head back to H before i was divorced  .Thanks again to Frank and Melissa for going to the trouble of meeting up with me and showing me a few marks  . That last beach was full of sand hoppers   They were all over my rucksack and the boot of the car the next day, its a long hop back from Tramore   .Day 2 ,, 3 pollock while lurefishing , 2 flounder and 1 whiting at the last beach.

Day 3,

Went back to Newtown cove on the evening of the 11th, to fish the incoming tide into darkness. Lots of anglers about, but i got a nice spot to myself and was soon into some pollock and wrasse. Wrasse were the target so i was chuffed to get 4 pollock, 1 ballen , 1 corkwing wrasse and 1 blenny. As darkness fell and i was chatting to another angler, i lobbed out a rag on a size 4 and got whacked immediately by a decent pollock, around 35cms, i find the bigger ones come in about dusk after the smaller fish. I left happy out especially as i was the only one to get any fish. Nice way to end the trip and i was able to give the wife my full attention for the final 2 hours in Tramore on Friday night   Day 3, 4 pollock, 1 x ballan wrasse, 1 x corkwing wrasse and 1 x blenny

I also bring my other half on fishin' trips to carry my rods too.
They're handy to have around for the likes of that....................:)
