Gilthead bream
Hi all.
Whats the story about gilthead bream...i've heard reports of them before but that was a few years ago...so the question is ,,,are they regular visitors in some places or still just a rarity?
Thanks,
Barra

Re: Gilthead bream
Had a few a couple of years ago down in Waterford and they seemed to be a regular catch, but haven't heard of to many caught recently and i haven't had any from the same marks, so not to sure how resident they are. It was during a period of nice warm weather so maybe they like the water temp up a bit.

Re: Gilthead bream
There were alot of Giltheads around Wexford, Waterford & Cork in May which is the best month for them
best day we had 19 up to 4lb.
Have not had any since then, except in Cork.
You need a High pressure for them and settled weather.

Re: Gilthead bream
Thanks guys..i presume the Giltheads caught around cork waterford, wexford (this year???) were from boats????
But Art i think i read from old posts that you were catching them from dungarvan harbour??
Are there any other types of bream avaliable to us??? they seem to get black bream in sw england...and in sweden (where i am now) i've seen them on local fish species charts near harbours...
I would love to hear about any stories of bream (for next years fishing) being caught around ireland ...
caught a few species of bream in australia eariler in the year and for the size of them they have a massive fight...very aggressive
ps Labyrinthfish....19 bream is some catch....but they do like to shoal

Re: Gilthead bream
There was a bream caught during the Donegal club boat championship on sunday last. not sure what type (black) as I didn't see it but apparently it was aroung 3lb. apperently caught on the Laurentic. There's normally a couple caught every year.
On another note there was a cracking john dory caught on the saturaday during the closed gold medal.
Also there has been a couple of trigger fish caught in crab pots.

All the bream were caught from the shore in May/June 09, had a few in Cork late August
They will still be around & this weather is perfect for them.
Some beaches will produce at night , for easy access to them fish estuaries with oyster beds located in them,The further south the better.
The only other bream i have caught in Ireland are very small black Bream on the south Wexford coast.
Dave.

3lb is a nice sizei hear there is both black and red bream on the Laurentic. Its weird that the Laurentic seems to be the only place you can catch them up north, they catch them from the shore in Scotland so why not here
anyone ever heard of any other places they`ve been caught???

Ofter thought that black bream shoud be on southeast coast, they catch lots in wales and its not that far away,

Re: Gilthead bream
Having fished for BB in Jersey and the South coast of England, I found that they were very much close to the mark ie if you were even a little bit away from the mark, you blanked. You had to be right on the mark to be in with a chance of a good, regular catch.
wonder if GB are the same? I'd love to catch one.
