West Waterford bass - 6th Spetember 2009

#1 Post by RockHunter »

People:Me and Melissa

Duration: 2.00 pm to 4.15 pm

Tide: LW at 1.30 pm

Weather: Atrocious - strong SSW winds, heavy horizontal rain

Bait: Lug

Rigs: 2 hook flapper (4/0), single hook flapper (4/0). 3/0 pennel pulley

Results: 1 bass

Report: After a very successful lure fishing session on Saturday I woke on Sunday morning to be greeted by howling wind and lashing rain so another lure session was out of the question. I headed to a beach that generally fishes well early on the rising tide. The rain was not too bad on the journey there but as soon as I got set up on the beach it got considerably heavier - and was blowing horizontally straight into my face   However, on the plus side there was a very good surf and very little weed.

I had been there about half an hour and just as the tide was beginning to push forward I had a strong knock on one of the rods. I grabbed it and struck - at first I thought it was just a clump of kelp but as I began to retrive I could feel the pull of a fish. It was a plump 45 cm bass :D :D :D :P :P :P

A little later I had a knock on the other rod - but the fish wasn't hooked - I retrieved the line and found that most of a big lug bait was gone. That was the last definite bite.

By 4.15 pm I had enough of the miserable weather and decided to pack up. But at least I got a bass - so I was happy enough and it was worthwhile heading out on one of the worst days that I have ever fished.

I remembered my camera this time !!!!!

Yes it was chubby bass alright - they were a lot more streamlined earlier in the year.

Thanks Dave, I don't think a beach buddy would have lasted too long with the wind were I was - and with the rising tide I would have had to move it every 5 minutes as it was quite a flat beach.
