Ennerilley 7-09-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me, Fishface and Mitch

Duration:5pm-11pm

Tide:ebbing mostly

Weather:crap,,,,windy, wet,

Bait:crab,rag, lug, squid,,all useless

Rigs:single hook clipped down for the bass that werent there and 2 hook flappers for in close stuff

Results:2 coalies, whiting, flounder and a codling

Fishface blanked

Report:Reading the results above it doesnt look like a bad session but it was. I got there first and set up the beach buddy (thank God i brought it  ).A guy who was leaving told me he'd been there for 4 hrs without a bite  . The weather wasnt too bad at that stage , it was dry at least with a stiff breeze but not too bad. It was too choppy for smoothies so i started to pray for bass instead  . Ger (Mitch) and Neil (Fishface) arrived but werent too keen on fishing Ennerilley .Ger headed further south and Neil decided to try his luck here. We'd loads of lovely crab and juicy rag but they were coming back untouched  . I started to get "its going to be one of those days" feelings but i tried to put all negative thoughts out of my head. Then Neil started his usual "whose idea was it to come here?" conversations, but luckily i had all his texts begging me to go to Ennerilly   . The wind was howling now with a strong tide running north up the beach. I reeled in a small flounder to much relief on my part and to Neils disgust  . A while later i got a small coalie on the flapper so at least my in close tactics were working, not that i had much choice as the 5oz lead was nearly coming back at me with the wind. Ger arrived back saying his other mark was unfishable  . He sorted out my tripod which i had pointed in the wrong direction and which kept falling over   . A double of a codling and a whiting were next for me, small but perfectly formed  . Then i got another coalie, a little bigger but no monster. At this stage Fishface had had enough and packed up. Ger had a small whiting which saved his blank so in the end it was just Neil who blanked  . The weather had really deteriorated at this stage and i had another couple of casts with big crab baits just to use it up but no joy. I packed up at 11pm, ran the gauntlet of steamed up lovers cars at the carpark, and headed home.
Ps Did i mention that Fishface blanked?

right thats it i give up, going to take up knitting, anybody want a load of useless fishing tackle. great to have friends like this, but as me mother always said he who laughs last laughs longest, will have to buy myself a useless floppy stick like daves and not bother with trying to catch real fish, just go for the photogenic tiddlers and build up my specimen list so as i can show off like other so called anglers i know. one tries to teach a fellow angler a few bits and bobs of info that one learns over the years, as at the time of the first meet all he knew was to tie granny hooks, well thats it im going to hide in a corner and cry cry cry      but as a film star once said ill be back

I'll stick to my 10 euro lamp - I dont want to blind everybody else on the beach and cause a few shipwrecks next time I fish East Cork as the ships would think they had passed Roches Point Lighthouse
