Re: Catching Prawns
I fill the little bait bag with a pouch of fish based cat food, the prawn seem to like that, so far Ive only had relative success in Bray Harbor. The trick that works is after 15 minutes haul it up and if there are a few decent sized crab, crush the crab and pull open their backs and pop them back in, then the prawns arrive on force. I put in a tin of sardines sometimes too. The best bait Ive used was a salmon head I got from the fish mongers, I put in mack heads too but they wash out too quickly or the crabs strip them in seconds. Fresh crab is great bait and apparently chicken legs are the best crab bait, but its all about experimenting I guess.
Bray Ive gotten enough prawns for a feed or to use as bait but there's not really wrasse around Bray to target. Greystones, Dun Laoighre West Pier, Sorrento Point, Colliemore Ive only had a couple of prawn, sometimes not even crab, but if there's a specimen award for pot caught rock gobies, Im claiming it
