Hey mate, just realised your from carrick. I live there too. Dont know many experienced anglers like yourself around my area. When i say experienced i mean by first looks, you look pretty experienced to me mate.
People say out near the power station along the water edge is good with the hot water flow outlet, i dont wana waste time walkin out there to find nothing.
You must know carrick areas for fishing and onwards but not to far, like whitehead and gobbins or browns bay.
Need a bit of advice really, all i can catch is Mackerel and getting annoyed with that now.
Poeple say you can get wrasse and pollack under lighthouse at whitehead. But its really snaggy down there, lost alot of tackle down there 2.
Anyone know what baits or rigs/lures i can use at whitehead or in carrick for pollock or wrasse, and is there any other species around these areas except mackerel.
Any help would be appreciated.

Allright aaron you just need to change your end tackle carrick harbour will throw up small pollack coalfish pouting codling and whiting plus congers and wrasse and the odd dogfish a light beachcaster is enuff size 1/0 hooks and a lead that suits sea state use ragworm or lugworm which can be dug locally mack and squid can be used for tipping worm baits hope this helps

Thanks mate, i never knew you could catch those fish in carrick, alot of anglers say there is noting round there except mackerel and the odd mullet. Do you mean The harbour itself where the mullet usually are or out to sea from the harbour entrance at the pilot station?.

Re: FAO Jonny Gilbert/Or other experienced people from this area
hey Aaron carrick harbour has quite a few different species about it, as alan says fishing towards the windbreak you will pick up pouting, poor cod, cod, rockling (3 & 5 bread and shore) and of course at this time of year any amount of 8 inch whiting you want lol. fishing into the corner where the rocks end on the tower side of the harbour will produce your congers which average between 8lb to 18lb but have heard of bigger lost too. for Carrick 3 hook flappers with size 2 hooks and rag, lug or mac will produce most of the species and for the congers mac, pouting and whiting are best rigs are running ledgers with a 6/0 to 8/0 hook tied to 100lb to 150lb hook length. the power station haven't fished it much this year but you will get coalies, pollack, flats, dogs and conger. if you fish out towards the hot water bubble its rough ground but if you cast towards the castle its clean with patches of weed. rigs are pulleys and flappers. boneybefore beach is another good spot especially at this time of year with the flounder moving back onto it to feed 3 hook flappers and rag, lug, mac and sandeel are the best for here. whitehead is fishing quite well too fished it the other week in the action cancer comp and it was alive with fish plenty of dogs, wrasse, plaice, pollack, coalies and conger coming off it. i find a pulley rig best for here as it is mixed ground sandeel, bluey, mac and rag i find works well the same goes for ballylumford harbour and there is some good fish there too there was a 10lb+ bull huss caught off it a couple of weeks ago. browns bay beach should be starting to fish now flappers and 2 or 3 hook clipped downs work best with rag, lug, mac, sandeel, bluey and squid are the best baits. if you move up to the painted rock there pulleys and pennell pulleys are best at this time of year and baits are pretty much the same you will get cod, pollack, coalies, the ever present whiting, conger, dogs, huss, flats and i even seen a couple of lumpsuckers caught off it at one of my club comps. hope this helps
cheers jonny
