Newbie / YoungBlood

#1 Post by clownfish »

Hello to all who cares,Very 1st post on this truly impressive site have been stalking these forums for almost a year now as an unregistered user,Collecting valuable knowledge from almost all who post.
I,ve been coarse fishing for a couple of years now and took the big leap forward to sea fishing not as successful as i wished for, but making slow progress almost 2 years now and must say that i absolutely addicted to the extent that i nearly experienced the quickest divorce in irish history, but she has finally come around now and has accepted it as something that i truly enjoy and after all its a sport and very technical and rewarding one at that, and the one thing she hates the most is that it can be quite expensive and time consuming .
I,ve never ventured further afield than any of the Northside beaches usually fishing form Donabate to as far as Dollymount.
My most productive fishing has been Howth(yes i know you have to start somewhere) so far and have caught a few mackerel and whiting ,a pollock and a dab and countless countless near catches and missed bites and clean hooks(damn seals).
I have learned most of my sea fishing Knowledge from friend and neighbour but to be honest have recently took the next level up from him and decided to put all my efforts into becoming a fully fledged sea angler Proper equipment techniques etc(sorry G) .
Almost finished would just like to thank i,m sure some of you might know him ,bumped into this guy in Malahide a while back he took my number and vice versa ,Tony(the kaiser)for his help and guidance the last few weeks gave me the push i needed to take the next step and heres to more fishing with this man and some of you in the future, so have just purchased a really good beach caster and about to purchase a good reel(thx tony and henrys) as the ones i originally have are the usual eur130 starters kit.14ft surf master and dam 65ati reel have to start somwhere and suppose have been good to me.
Really looking forward to making alot more (short)posts in the future with of course results and pictures.
Heres to the future
Tight lines
Thx for reading
Jay

PS.Any decent spots or marks around the Malahide area would be greatly appreciated all pms welcome

Thx Doggie for the kind reply and yes tried the brownie points tactic and you know what it works made her a fine dinner this evening and gave her control of the tv ,and slowly broke the news that i was heading out fishing tonight.
Hit Malahide again this evening high tide met a nice chap from Donabate who was in my spot ,no worries Matt, yet who kindly gave a light for the tip of my rod cheers,How and ever some nice bites clean hooks also caught a decent sized crab :P :P lol which will be kindly donated to the freezer.Blanked but will keep pursuing.

first thing you have to do is try and convert her give her a rod of a sunday go to howth let her get some small pollock when she catches more fish than you do she will then understand why your hooked on this sport this worked for me
when i decided to buy my boat my wife threw a wobbler so close to christmas where will you keep it can you afford it.
i got around this by telling her i was naming the boat after her and it was for all the family to enjoy my wife is terrified of boats but still came out for a days mack bashing which she enjoyed also a good idea to go and get a large picture of your
self and put it over the fireplace this is how the wife and kids will know you when you come home after your fishing
welcome to the site and the sport ha ha ha

Thanks twinkle,
It will be a while before i invest on a boat ,and i thought the idea of fishing was to leave the missus at home  the picture over the fireplace is a great idea though.thanks again for the welcome.

no clownfish the idea is to let her think you want her to go fishing and she will make the excuse not to go a bit of reverse
physcology this normally works after a few wet nights on the beach[ i thought the idea of fishing was to leave the missus at home]

I hear ya twinkle ,the great thing in my situation is she doesn,t like boats ,bad weather and absolutely no mack(she,ll eat em though) bashing so i think i,m on to a winner.Besides her perfect sunday out to howth would be to q for an hour in Burdochs for a fresh cod and chips

Welcome to the site.

The best way to learn more is to fish more and look at the various sites about bait presentation and rig building. I recommend Planet sea fishing and the sea angler website videos. The quickest way to learn more and catch more is to join a fishing club.
Regards to the missus... with time she will understand the addiction of sea fishing and give in to becoming a fishing wife hehe. good luck and tight lines pal
